5199 will be at CVR for all of 2011 as a minimum. She is to attend SSS3 in 2012, but after that nothing has been agreed.
6046 still has a lot of work to go. Work was forced to stop whilst we repaired 5199 last year, and has only recently recommenced.

There been no official announcement as details are still tbc, but it was said that there would be a 3year break between SSS2 and 3.

Anyhow getting back on topic, hopefully someone can help Steve and the CVR out. Otherwise looks like 5199 will have a busy 2011!

Just wondering if the South Devon are hiring out their 2-8-0 this year as don't think they've sold it & it is considered a bit big for their line.

If you can call the gradients on the GW/WR hills then that's your choice...I doubt very much that a Hall would make it up Drumocther or Slochd...;-)

With a tractive effort almost 2,000lbs higher than a Black 5 and with a crew that knew how to handle it I'm fairly certain it would. ;)

Whether it would fit is another matter though! :)

On what basis do you doubt this?
Is the summit you mention anywhere near Drumochter on the Highland main line?

Post removed - apologies for causing such great offence by having the audacity to discuss lines operated by locomotives without animals painted on the side.

GWR Hall No. 5972 hasn't forayed anywhere east of Cowlairs in Scotland I believe, she has only been up the WCML and on to Fort William via the West Highland Line, and has operated over the West Highland Line extension. Now 7 Mk1's is the limit between Fort William and Mallaig which she has handled, but on what is considered the more difficult route between Glasgow and Fort William, I believe she has only ever hauled 6 solo....and that was between filming shoots so would have plenty time to build up steam etc.., as far as I know, every time she's done am ECS move from the South to Fort William and back, she's had a diesel with her, majority of the time assisting? I'm sure somebody can correct me on this.

Perhaps you should regale us with some of your no doubt extensive footplate experience upon which your opinion is based? - perhaps we might all learn something!

or does has your opinion been formed over a few pints of winter ale?
