The thing with Flying Scotsman is that unlike any other engine she is an Icon and known as 4472 and in Apple Green . Any other livery or number and to the public she means a lot less although yes it would be nice to see her in Blue or Brunswick Green

This haul as much as possible argument I also find frustrating . Her condition was to an extent because of that . she is a delicate old lady now and has slogged her way around the world , isn't it time for a more gentle dotage ? I quite like the Vintage Trains approach . Carriage loads well within the limits for the engine . I suspect that she will command a premium fare but should she be pushed for that extra pound ?

She won't be pushed hard, we won't allow that. Chris Beet is well in hand with what he intends her to pull and where, so no worries there.

I think there is an issue with the poll voting system on this thread. I've been able to vote more than once.

That shouldn't be possible - I did not set it up for multiple voting. Nor do I see the voting buttons. Have you got multiple ID's or something? Anyone else found this happening plse?

I've just replicated this myself. I see what you mean (I didn't actually vote again though). Maybe Admin can advise as to how this is possible?

Maybe admin could reset the poll voting system to give us a true poll count?

I wouldn't mind seeing 4472 with a GNR tender but if you want an authentic 1924 look its complicated. Different Valve Gear, different cab, squared bufferebeams. Mind you there is a picture with 4472 with a GNR tender (with LNER on it) taken in 1936 in the recent pocket book on the loco.

I would like to see 4472 with double chimney, BR green but without smoke deflectors !
Am I alone with my singular preference ?

I tried the same test on Mrs S. She said it's like a Granny Smith's colour. She couldn't name a 'dark green' loco at all, but offered "Duchess of Something" when I tried red. SWMBO has spoken.

The poll seems pretty conclusive to me, ie something different to the current condition is whats wanted, be it LNER Single chimney or BR with Double and Deflectors, my personal preference is for the latter but i woulden't mind the former over the current condition, given the loco is unlikely to be pushed too near the limit in NRM ownership then i'd have to say surely the extra grunt the double chimney gives is not crucial given it's unlikely to be lugging around the VSOE or taking 13 over Shap, using Castles as a comparison, 5043 will outperform 5029, but 5029 is hardley incapable of performing what's asked of it.

Ultramarine blue (as mentioned in some other thread) would look nice.

    I reckon it would look really good if;

All-over black, with red lining where required.
    Red frames & wheels
    Those luvverly german-style smoke deflectors
Get the air pump out on display, where it belongs.

Whaddya mean, its not April first?

    Regards,
    Ian
