With no SWT service running on the Weybridge to Virginia Water line tomorrow, is this still planned to go via Staines?

Oh, good question. It's snowed a bit again locally, with more in the forecast, so the lines might be a bit slippery! I suppose they could still send it to Guildford via Ascot.

I was just wondering where to go to see this, guess I'll check again for news in the morning.

Anyone know what the roads to Ranmore Common are like at the moment?

I am going to try for Albury as you can park just off the A246(?) and walk. I wouldnt fancy driving the roads up Ranmore Common but if you made it the view would be superb! I have been up there for summer trains running the other way up the gradient

Ranmore's the wrong side of the summit, really. Clan Line won't be working much, if at all. However, there are some nice shots to be had from Hackhurst Down, north of Abinger Hammer. The lane to Hackhurst Farm will almost certainly not be passable to normal cars ATM, but it's about a 20 minute walk from the village (on the A25) or from Gomshall station. If the sun's out, there are nice views from the lane and the fields to the south of the line. If not (but visibility otherwise OK) you can see a long way from the hill side north of the line.

BTW, any info on route and progress would be welcome. I'm stuck in the office today, but a couple of friends are braving the elements.

I think I'll just go to Virginia Water today. I'll send a text update from there if that suits you Steamage. Will post here too if I have a decent connection.

VSOE passed Gomshall about 15 late. My correspondant then went for a pint with some other photographers to thaw out, hence the delay in passing this on ;-)

Don't you mean Some STEAM LOCO phots here! A kettle is, these days mostly, a small plastic vessel, usually electric powered, used to boil water to make a cup of tea or coffee.

I was the only one waiting at Albury foot crossing, was lovely and peaceful with just rabbits and squirrels for company during the half hour wait. I did see one man up on the hill behind though. She was prob only around 5 mins late there so must of got up the hill a little slower than scheduled, could hear her climbing away long after I had packed up and was heading back. Two photos below, video to follow...

A kettle, does this look like 35028? I don't think the MNLPS would be too amused if you said it was.

Thank you! And no, I parked at the top by the junction with the main road and walked. Though someone (local residents I guess) had put some grit down on Blackheath Lane so it was not too bad and whilst I was waiting a car went up and it never came back nor did I see it when I walked back so it must of made it out! Didn't fancy risking it though. Managed to walk back down the hill again without slipping over which I was pleased with!
