From what I have read and its no more than that the NRM will only be making Scotsman available to RTC & SD. WCRC do of course operate air-braked steam hauled trains as well as vacuum braked ones and as I said above DBS do not currently operate NRM locomotives. If it is ready I suppose it could well appear on the Scarborough Spa Express given this train is both promoted and operated by WCRC but another possible option could be for it to go into the RTC Crewe pool for their summer workings, Scarborough Flyer, Cumbrian Mountain Express, North Wales Coast Express etc which are all confirmed as runnning again in 2011. I suppose we will just have to wait and see.

I was expecting 4472 to be the main loco on the Scarborough Spa Express in 2011, assuming it runs to a similar pattern to recent years, and assuming the loco is ready in time. Depending on the exact details of the agreement, this may still be the case.

How long does this agreement last? I'd guess probably a year, or two at most. Also, I'd read this announcement slightly differently - rather than making it sound like a restriction, I'd take it to mean that 4472 will be available to both SD and RTC, and therefore could appear more-or-less anywhere in the country.

To put it in context, how many steam tours are run by other operators? Riviera Trains probably wouldn't be too interested, unless 4472 was based at Tyseley for a few weeks. UK Railtours and Pathfinder only run a limited number of steam tours each year, and she's not suitable for either The Jacobite nor The Cambrian Coast. I suppose Torbay Express may feel left out, but they've got a good relationship with Tornado, so it's probably not an issue for them.

Will there be a "launch party" for 4472 at the NRM? Could be a good excuse to get as many of their working locos together at York as possible. City of Truro, Ollie, 777, the Beattie Well Tank, maybe the ROD and/or Super-D, maybe Nellie, if she's back in action by then? How about a railtour hauled by 70013 and 777 from somewhere like Carnforth or Crewe to York, with 4472 taking over York - Scarborough & back at the start of the "party", (diesel back home), and a similar trip a week later to return 70013 and 777. It will all depend, of course, on when 4472 will be ready and what else the other locos are commited to at the time.

When will we see A1, A3 and A4 Pacifics in steam together, I wonder? SD are not running a Coronation next year, but perhaps next year's York Christmas Market will bring 60007 from Newcastle, 4472 from London and 60163 from somewhere else?

I hope the folks at Didcot and York are in discussion about reuniting Flying Scotsman and Pendennis Castle once the Castle is complete. They've got a bit of catching up to do!

How about a number of railtours reaching York on the same day at a similar time from different parts of the country. A cavalcade of mainline steam full of enthusiasts.

Ive always wondered what made it become so famous.

was it the 100mph record or was it the amount of railtours and coverage it got in the 1960s?

the 1968 non stop run is available to watch here and is well worth watching...

I like to see the engine in any of the liveries it carried, whilst there are minor visual differences that make each one unauthentic, the only guise I dont really like is apple green with smoke deflectors. smoke deflectors in br green I think it looks good.

What I would like to see & no doubt many others as well, would be 60103 + 60163 double headed, doing two trips over a weekend so that I could part with some hard earned cash for a ride behind them & run round after them the following day.

And as there appears to be a god relationship between the NRM and the A1 trust, maybe just maybe it will happen, and wouldn't care what livery either loco was in.

But i would, i think they should be in the same one. I would like to see a 60103 in BR Apple green,YES I KNOW its not authentic but so little else is it would be a joke to object on that basis ... No doubt agreements would have to be drawn up to take turns on the 'Pilot' duties....

Apple green works for me - but you'd have to wait a couple of years for Tornado to reappear in apple green, you could have them both in brunswick green & they just 'happen' to meet Bittern some where, or going further how about express blue with a nice rake of Pullmans & arrive at York at the same time as SNG.

I for one would just love to see either of those scenarios! But you could safely say that Network Rail would be having kittens after the close calls this year with irresponsible linesiders.

As for pilot duties - take it in turns, though it would make more sense to have 60103 at the head, if she were inside Tornado it just wouldn't look right.

I reckon that she would look seriously good in lined black, looking truly like the race horse she is!

I would like to see all three locos in Brunswick Green 60103 Scotsman, 60532 Blue Peter, 60163 Torando and all together in steam. Now how cool would that be.

great stuff, did you see yourself on the film?

your not one of the young lads giving a quite serious interview about model trains and trainspotting are you? :)

also those Barry scrapyard and cutting up scenes are quite powerful images.
