Can anyone recommend any photo locations on the Swanage railway this weekend as I am visting for the first time. Bear in mind that it will probably need to be within walking distance of Swanage station or Herston halt?

Another area is rostering enough crews.
After the best ever Summer season our volunteers obviously need to spend some time with their families, catch up with gardening/decorating/etc.
However, we're not alone at this time of year with 'problems' trying to get sufficient crews for our scheduled services let alone special workings.
With the great weather lets hope there are plenty of photo opportunities available.

if you can reach Harman's Cross, turn right out of the station, pass over the railway line and continue up the hill. There is a footpath to Woodyhyde which passes through 3 fields. Good views of the trains from the second and third field.

The footpath is south of the line.

Corfe Castle station is lovely, even with the building work going on around the new signalbox.

Half way between Corfe Castle station and Norden (10 minute walk from either) is a short viaduct and a cross-roads. At the cross roads is the entrance to a footpath around the base of the castle ruins. Go in there and climb as high up the castle bank as you dare for a spectacular view. Getting down is harder than climbing up!

From Corfe Castle station, walk along the main road towards Swanage to the edge of the town. Opposite the road to Kingston and Worth Matravers is a footpath across Corfe Common which crosses the line on a stone bridge by Corfe up distant signal. Some great views from around here, especially in the morning.

There is a footcrossing about 100/150yards Swanage side of Corfe Castle.

Can get good shots of departures (going up hill) and with the castle in background.

Thanks for all your suggestions, I should have a good day tomorrow, providing the public transport runs to time.

It is a pity that none of the locos operating face south, as the shot at CC with the castle in the background looks spectacular. I will post my pictures on here after my visit...
