Rother Valley Railway

I am so grateful that there are fit and able people, who willingly lay and maintain yhr track for RVR/KESR.
Although 40 years ago I used to muck-in with the track gang at Quainton Rd, I was never the fittest.
After moving my volunteering to KESR, I did once or twice join with the p/w gang, I hope my efforts were worthwhile, but at the same time I was acutely aware that I was even less fit than I had been.

Nowadays, I know that I could not cope.

Once again, I am grateful that there are people able to do the hard physical work needed.

 

Am I the only person who spent about 15 minutes scanning carefully along all the sleepers before spotting the sitting device on the left hand side of the picture?

Pway is not only about cast iron; we like our comforts too.
Funny thing, that chair. I found it lineside. Four more tipped into the cess, and a sixth thrown into the neighbours field.

That’s interesting I’ve only ever seen 4 chairs (sitting on variant) during the track laying process. Are you in on Friday? That’s my next track laying shift day.

 

Yes, I booked the whole week.

 

More puzzled as to why anyone would carry 4 (or 6) chairs to such an isolated place.

 

Fly tippers seem to go to massive lengths to avoid spending a few minutes effort or a few quid to dispose of things properly...

 

Personally I never bothered to look; it's flat-bottomed rail, there shouldn't be any chairs...

 

Now that’s clear I need a nice sit-down.

 

You will need a chair then. Lucky we have 6!!!!

 

Three and a half panels laid today.
That makes a total of 12 1/2 in 3 days, out of the week's target of 20.

 

The starting point (still a chair, but today with an orange jacket on it) is in the distance by the field boundary.



As you can see we were just 5 people today, plus the digger driver.

 

This chair seems to have fundamental importance. What would happen to the grand master plan if someone moved the chair overnight?

 

They did, down to today's starting point, and now there are three of them!

A chair makes a good reference point, if you look back from the next rail head.

 

This is where we are going to, you should able to see the other rail head. It's to the right of the white car.
It's about 200 paces, and we have two more days this week.
