Swanage Autumn Steam Gala 11-13 September

Good to have a full preview day, but somewhat annoying when you have three appointments that day only one of which you can probably move.

Tornado is booked to arrive by rail on Thursday 10th September.

Will be diesel hauled down from Tyseley, but whether it goes in steam or not will probably be dependent on Network Rail lifting their steam ban. There’s been talk of it coming down ‘rods off’.

its still stuck at the NYMR any idea when it will leave Grosmont?

 

Looks like it’s due to leave in the very early hours of Monday 7th - RTT link here.

 

It is not "stuck" at Grosmont but is undergoing some pre-planned maintenance there. It never was planned to leave until early September and as far as I can see it is going to schedule.

Preview day on the Thursday (10th) looks exciting. It appears to be the only day where three trains are hauled by double-headed Spamcans (Swanage to Norden).

I read it as Swanage to Norden for the double headed part.

Not sure which TOC has next week's movement contract although DB's 66017 towed it to the NYMR in the first place.

 

Although that was shown as a Vintage Trains move.

 

Perhaps Vintage Trains didn't have anyone passed on the route so sub-contracted the move to DB?
Still, will be interesting to see what turns up at Norden Gates and whether 60163 will be towed with rods off [out of steam] or rods on [light steam].

 

It does look sort of DB with a Q path back to Eastleigh in the evening.
If it is rods off I guess at 45 it is going to have trouble keeping to the planned timings.
But if the SNG guys think they are hauling the Saphos trip ex Poole tomorrow from Taunton who knows what the NR fire risk status is down from the Midlands to Swanage.

Seemingly a DB Class 66 (or possibly two in top and tail mode) scheduled to bring Tornado as, apparently, no mainline driver available for 60163.
Will have to wait until Thursday to see if it was dragged in light steam with support crew on 60163's footplate or out of steam with rods off?

The Swanage Railway Museum's Book Wagon - next to Corfe Castle Goods Shed - is scheduled to be open this Saturday (12th) and Sunday (13th).
A wide range of second-hand railway books, etc. and DVDs is in stock at reasonable prices.
Unfortunately, due to lack of volunteers, the Book Wagon is currently not scheduled to be open this Friday (11th).

 

And if the post from @Romsey is correct on the Fire Risk thread is correct then it would not be allowed to be in steam.

 

Tornado was in light steam behind a DB class 66 on it's move to Tyseley yesterday.

Apparently the Special Traffic Notice shows 60163 to be hauled with connecting rods removed.
That's so the loco does not need to be in steam to work the cylinder lubrication. Bearing and motion lubrication normally works without steam.
