I really wouldn't read anything into this. I believe there are personal reasons why Lineisclear has resigned that are nobody's business apart from his. I have seen an explanation elsewhere from him so let's leave the spurious speculation behind.

I've posted this elsewhere as well, found on one of my late partner Samantha's VHS tapes, Kluz's Obsessions. A Tyne Tees TV local programme from the late 90s featuring A4 SNG, the NYMR and some will known faces, most sadly also no longer with us.

We'll take your word for it (for now). But so much happens behind curtains at the NYMR that the rest of us more or less have to grope in the dark, on minimal clues, to try and understand what's going on. The current top layer of management at the NYMR might want to remember that we are not mushrooms. Their desire to keep things private may be understandable, but the almost inevitable consequence of that lack of openness, in an organization that is facing severe challenges, is poorly-based speculation among the onlookers. (To use an electrical engineering analogy, when there is not enough signal, the response is often to turn up the gain/amplification - but that cannot improve the signal/noise ratio - as here.)

The NYMR is acting like an 'ordinary' business - but it's not, although they are constantly displaying for us evidence that the current top layer of management (above the CEO - who is not the shot-caller in the organization) does not understand that.

There is no need to take my word for it's the truth. Lineisclear has given his reasons on another forum why he is standing down. I'm not going to repeat why as it's not my place and it's his choice what and where he makes this public. There are users on here 60044 for one that knows this to be true so you don't need to "take my word for it(for now)"

 

I agree with all that you say, but.... he does not seem to have changed his views, and seems unrepentant for them now that he has started posting again. As he is posting on NYMR matters he's laying himself open to challenge, and presumably accepts that, and is prepared for it.

 

I was not defending his views just the reasons he stepped down and how conspiracy theories over it are unfounded. As you say he is leaving himself open to challenge.

 

An interesting post. The NYMR ( and other heritage railways) may not be ordinary businesses but they absolutely must be run in accordance with normal business principles whether that’s finance or corporate governance. They are after all usually companies or incorporated charities subject to statutory regulation so there are legal constraints on the way they are managed. My impression is that fundamental truth is not always understood or accepted by those that believe they should function like the members’ preservation societies that were the origin of so many.
As to a lack of openess it’s right that volunteers in particular should be kept informed, The weekly information updates go a long way in doing that. Members can also expect to be kept reasonably informed and the traditional way of doing that is through magazines such as Moors Line. I’m not convinced that those who do not fall into any of those categories ( which includes a number of posters on here) should assume there’s any duty to keep them informed.

 

Well of course I’m not repentant! Like 60044 I hold strong views which I can now express in a purely personal capacity.. Some may be unpopular which doesn’t mean they’re wrong. By all means challenge them as long as you are prepared to have your own convictions subjected to the same.

 

Right, but I have no idea where that is, and of course I haven't read what he wrote. So I do have to rely on your report about it.

I'm not trying to give you are hard time in saying I'll "take your word for it "; I'm just trying to be careful, and accurate.

I think, I would be kind of disappointed if you were. But out of all the officers and managers at the NYMR, I've had dealings with over the years. I have found you to be the one with the least open mind, with regard to debate and reasoned argument. Having said that I find you to be likeable and very personable. How will you feel should the railway deviate away from your core beliefs of how it should run?

FWIW, I too support @Dumb buffer 's stance, having spoken to @Lineisclear in person a little while ago last time he was at Winchcombe box, so folks can take my word for it too if it helps. We may disagree on a lot here, but John is always up for a good humoured and spirited debate whenever we bump into each other, even if minds are very rarely changed

 

Although if you cut me in half you would find NYMR like a stick of rock ( rather confusingly embellished with GWSR and HRA) there comes a point where you have to accept other priorities. My wife has a terminal illness and has reached the stage where I am her full time carer. Hopefully that explanation will dispel any conspiracy theories.

 

A “like” for that would feel wrong, but thank you for the explanation; and my heartfelt sympathy for your situation.
