Stanier Class 5s 44718 to 44727 had riveted steel inner fireboxes.

There are lots of riveted steel fireboxes out there but there are a growing number of welded steel fireboxes. The problem with a riveted box is it requires lap joints and that is a weak spot compared with a welded box because there is a greater thickness of metal at that place and that makes the surface on the fire side further away from the cooling boiler water and there is a tendency for it to degrade over time. That’s the same whether it’s steel or copper.
I’m surprised that welded copper boxes are few and far between. I only know of two in the UK, both on Danish locos.

Looking at today's roster seems Tornado is operating solo. But I thought there was a red fire con warning risk?

If so this is purely a commercial decision. If Tornado starts a fire I'd like to see their excuse to the relevant services!

Seems as if the penny is finally dropping!

They have no other loco in ticket to operate a regular service. Rather than change the wording in timetables to reflect this they're advertising a largely steam service that they know they cannot fulfill and then charging a premium for Tornado only services that don't give passengers the opportunity to travel onwards to Whitby nor break their journey.

They've never declared FIRECON. They just haven't got any engines available.

On the July Youtube update Nick steered around it by saying they were 'just being careful what they ran'. But in the same video Repton was seen light engine on a test run after reassembly and he said there would be loaded test runs and then internal runs before sending it to Whitby again, implying those runs were all imminent.

As for the others in ticket

    44806 on washout
    Eric is stopped for repairs
9F is still stopped following chimney replacement
29 is available but doesn't seem to be being used except for Driver Ex
Lucie was hanging around Grosmont platforms last week
2253 only seems to work on Wednesdays.
Q6 is still away and unlikely to be back anytime soon (NELPG now considering a 10 year overhaul due to amount of issues)

That's all I can think of. But shout if I've missed any.

But then why has the timetable not been changed to reflect this at least online? It's probably less of a job than uploading a roster every day. A banner put along the top of the website along the flogging of 60163 tickets and also printing of thirty of so posters to chuck up at stations would all do an awful lot for the working oeprstonal volunteers who have to field such questions on the ground.

When, in recent years, have the incumbents of Park Street ever made it easy for people on the ground?
