It might. But the questions are being asked rather than treated as unaskable.

The point of designing a survey is to do so in a way that helps people to answer the questions well without having to interpret what is being asked.

I won’t be answering at all. I am not the target audience. I just have some experience in designing surveys.

A survey of what people are thinking isn't worth doing, nor will be useful, unless it reveals the truth, and all I'm suggesting is that respondents provide genuine answers.

The survey only gives a single line entry for free-text responses, which is either poor interface design (you can write more, but it isn't made obvious) or poor survey design (responses are very limited). Hopefully it is just poor interface design and longer responses are welcome.

Some of the questions are a bit motherhood and apple pie - I don't suppose many people are going to argue that being a robust organisation is built on the twin pillars of safety and finances - but it is nonetheless interesting that certain shibboleths are raised, for example Whitby operations and a predominance of Mark 1 carriages.

It would be interesting to read the accompanying document that sets out the details, but I appreciate that as a disinterested bystander, I have no inherent right to see that document.

The key thing now I guess is that, for those members who have agitated that things are going awry, they engage (in a measured way) to set out teh direction they believe the railway should take.

Poor survey design. The platform has all the necessary features. The issue now is that the poor design will make it difficult for many to engage in the responses well and/or those analysing them are about to discover they’ve created themselves a very difficult task, as many will likely use the free text boxes to give answers im a manner that will make the collation and grouping of answers a real challenge.

We use SureyMonkey at work for site feedback ,and the template used here is the same (ie short text field boxes for the questions with an open question field at the end).

The latest update from Southern locomotives limited informs that 34072 is visiting the NYMR for the steam gala in September.

I wonder how the 'Green Knight' appeal is going. I would have thought Vera would attract more widespread interest amongst the general public, plus it gets another oil burner available sooner.

I much prefer a Standard 4 4-6-0 to a 2-6-0 but I'm still confused as to why 75029 is considered a perfect loco for the NYMR but 76079 isn't!

Incidentally, has it been sold yet?

I think the answer to your question is "nobody (outside the management) knows" - and those who don't know aren't giving any reasoning. For my own part I 'd prefer to see 76079 rebuilt rather than the 4-6-0. And in answer to the earlier question of how well the 75029 appeal is going, according to the latest Moors Line, the answer is £11,000 so far, so not too well.

The one time I had 76079 out of Whitby it really struggled climbing the hill to Grosmont, but it was autumn I think so that could have been a factor.

I think the answer is that work on overhauling 75029 has already started, but now stalled while 76079 is still complete and possibly an easier sell. I agree with @60044 that I would also see the latter retained, but the future looks pretty bleak for both on them.

CEO says £11k, but the head of engagement claims £15,624 on the GK page, not that either amount will go far, pity that the only standard 4 to main line in preservation lies forgotten.

Forgive me for pedantry, do you mean the only 75xxx standard 4? I'm sure 76079 has been on the mainline as have a few of the tanks!

75069 and 75014 have had main line careers in preservation. Of the 2-6-0s, 76084, also ventured out onto main line metals during its last ticket.

....and so did 80135 (although no further than Middlesboro, I think).

Not likely to run beyond Whitby ever again though if it remains in NYMR ownership. Ownership with somebody else may see it return to the mainline proper.
