It’s OK, cancellations due to fire risk will be replaced by cancellations due to floods …

Not much risk of cinders falling from that ashpan …

I like the new word "smuttering" - a mix of 'smattering' and 'smuts' - very appropriate!

BBC Weather reporting 158mm of rain at Honister since Friday. Cumbria has certainly been dampened.

    Tom,

It's not on the railway. Because the railway company declined to paint the loco in BR lined black with a BR number, it's been re-routed via the canal.

That’s good news, running an off road driver training course up there next week, the “wading” section of the course is a bit of a non event at the moment.

So CME Saturday will be diesel by the sound of that. Scarborough Spa next week won’t be able to run with steam until Skipton. Cumbrian coast the following Saturday no steam again. Assuming it stays black of course

Does anyone know how this will effect Nunneys run on Saturday? I presume Diesel behind Nunney, either that or working hard at the back.

Either way there will be some form of diesel assistance.

I foresee a blanket ban in most of the south soon - no sign of rain anywhere for two weeks or more, with very high temperatures and very strong sun.

The general fire risk statement is dismissive of the West Highland extension which is under review of the Local Area Manager.

Earlier in the year, Scotland was under a Green banner, but rightly so no steam was operating during a prolonged dry spell in the West Highlands.

I was up there on Saturday and Sunday. Both Jacobites ran with pure steam and no diesel. There were heavy thundery showers on and off throughout the Saturday.
