    Two photo's attached of 6100 and 6233 at Bressingham. My caption on the slides says Mid 70s .But I think 1971 for 6100 and about 1975 for 6233.Mr Ward of BR inter city trains special unit ,was said to be a driver there. I also visited Butlins at Minehead in about 1962,Butlins employed a retired driver to sit in the cab all day to explain the workings of a steam loco to campers. Much to the amusement of my two friends, who were fireman with BR. They wanted to know what the rate of pay was for the job.!

    It was my understanding that whilst at Bressingham both 6100 and 6233 were able to steam up and down the demonstration line at low pressure.

    I dont know about low pressure... but yet footplates rides were done and I had many a happy trip on them as well as 2500 and Oliver Cromwell.

    No, clearly it went horribly wrong!
    But I meant if Bressingham *could* have completed the overhaul and run it mainline, I would have preferred that to it joining another large collection.
    In proper LMS crimson lake (and I know it wasn't always done properly) I personally it looked marvellous and different from all the other locos running around in sludgy post war depressing end of days green - but that's a personal view.
    I know this loco didn't run it in after rebuilding, but British Legion did look like that, and anyway, 6100 (the current 6100) wore the red livery far longer than any other, albeit all of that in preservation. But preservation history is history too!
