I’m afraid that there’s not a chance that No. 2007 will be completed in three years. The trust has no fundraising strategy and seems to have given up trying to raise the necessary funds. It’s clearly borrowed from the P2 funds to pay for Tornado’s overhaul and that will also need to be repaid.

I think in fundraising terms that strategy would be ... courageous!

What was the last known balance in the P2 funds? and surely, if funds have been "borrowed" does there not have to be a motion put to the convenors to allow this, as otherwise it could be construed as misappropriation? But it would account for the non-appearance of the new boiler, and the apparent lack of progress, didn't someone say the boiler was just a pile of pressed plates a few months ago? with there being no further work done,
I suppose that time will eventually tell, if say this time next year, there has been little or no progress on the P2, clearly questions will be asked and answers wanted,

Its the first Saturday of the month tomorrow, why not go to Darlington and voice your concerns???
I take it you actually contribute, so have some beef in this apparent argument??

I am in Darlington tomorrow, on another job, and will be calling in, so lets wait and see.

My understanding is that the only restricted funds are those for the P2 boiler. They sensibly do inter company loans to smooth cash flow. But they should be just that - loans. They haven’t said what the balance of those loans is. New boilers were due in 2020 and 2021. Latest statement was autumn 2024 for first which has again come and gone. Never seen any evidence of second other than a rolled barrel plate.

Echoing what @Sheff has said, anything you can find out would be welcome, if only to put some concerns and speculation to rest.

It's more than rolled boiler plate:

    https://www.railadvent.co.uk/2023/0...steam-locomotive-no-2007-prince-of-wales.html

and that was over a year ago! Perhaps it's now being modified to avoid problems when eventually fitted to the A1 (or P2)?

Was that the second boiler? If it was, given its advanced state of completion, a more pertinent question might be "what has happened to the first one, for "Tornado"?"

Either that or the chassis is not ready to receive the boiler yet, but if its ready, and been the paperwork signed off, awaiting tubing why isn't it already over here in Darlington , I could understand it, if the plan was to ship it unfinished, then tube it over here, where it could be done to the satisfaction of the boiler inspector, I do wonder, did those tubes find their way into 60163, And the trust need to raise more money to buy a set of tubes to finish off the p2 boiler?

That's the second boiler of three which was to be fitted to 60163 but it was decided to overhaul 60163's original instead.

So why isn't it here yet?

We're back to my earlier point about updates, the more detail there is in one place, the more the silemce elsewhere is noticeable

What the point of it being here if the Cylinder block, in frame pipework, or leading bogey are not in place.
It might as well arrive when its required on site.

Surprised Brexit has not been blamed yet...

Indeed, why have money or work tied up in a component when is not wanted yet ?

To have boiler over a year late may be regarded as misfortune, to have both looks like carelessness...
