A new update (ignore the page name, it's actually Spring 2023)!

Hmmm, I clicked on something on the page (hard to tell as it wasn't showing properly), and it was diverting me to a website cashback.co.uk
I hope this is just me/my phone, but caution advised

Yes, I had that happen to me too. The site is not optimised for phones and is also insecure (only uses http).

    Avoid.

When I click on the link my AV tells me "download denied" from Cloudswitch or something. Also my browser (Chrome) says the site linked to is not secure. This is on my Windows PC.

Always works fine for me, but maybe me ISP (VirginMedia) blocks anything untoward.

Is there a way to let the website know they need to make it secure from hacks?

Sounds like something is hijacking links on the site (which is easier because the site isn't encrypted in transit – the SSL/https issue noted above).

It's not impossible that that's not just an issue with the website, but with your computer (if you have a virus on your computer, it's entirely possible for it to hijack links in non-secure website pages).

It's fine for me, and I had a quick squizz at the source code and didn't see any untoward links on the home page, so if it is a problem with the site being hijacked in transit, it's not affecting everyone all the time (but like @brmp201 I'm also on Virgin, so… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ), but if I were you, I'd be doing a pretty thorough virus cleanse on my laptop first and foremost.

It's definitely worth saying to the Brighton Belle folk that it's not good enough to have a site that encourages donations (how confident would anyone be in the BACS details on their donate page for example) that doesn't use SSL in 2024. Lots of guidance at https://www.google.com/search?clien...+website+from+http+to+https&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

Lots of weird redirects if you click on the donate page. I'm guessing that page has been left up without being updated - I don't think funding is an issue any more.

I went to the link on @brmp201's post on my PC and got nothing bearing any news whatsoever.

@goldfish is right in that they need to up their game web-wise. No excuse (other than the cost of a SSL certificate) for going https:// these days.

There is now a link saying "April 22nd 5BEL Trust Update" which links to a non-existent page. Hopefully this will be corrected in the next day or two.

Yes, I spotted that. Poor show, IMO.

So another LSL satellite operation, or had I missed that fact before?

I don't think it had been formally announced, but being at Crewe and lack of fundraising efforts made it pretty obvious that LSL were going to be involved.

The sheer novelty value of seeing a Brighton Belle unit being tested on Merseyrail is worth going to see, if only to see the expressions on the faces of Merseyrail's normal passengers! I don't suppose it would fit or be allowed through the tunnel...

Does LSL have any 73's or 33/1's it can use with the belle if any route includes non electrified sections? but i'm surprised, I would have expected belmont to have operated it as part of their british pulman brand,
But saying that if the unit is going to run under its own power that gives it quite a wide operating area within the 3rd rail territory

As long as there is time to serve the meals then Kent and Weymouth (with stop at Bournemouth) are obvious candidates. Even Brighton and reverse and along the coast.

The redirect bug on the website fortunately has been sorted.
    From the release
So the trust still is the owner and will fundraise for the 5 car.
Would have thought there would have been more than 2 tours in 2025?
Does not say where it will be stored, Southall depot would be convenient for tours from Victoria to Brighton on 3rd rail.

It doesn't say that. It says that as part of the contract between the 5BEL Trust and LSL, the Trust is entitled to require the operator (i.e. LSL) to operate the unit for two days each year to the requirements of the Trust. A bit like having a clause in a loco contract on a heritage railway that requires the railway to provide a certain number of days each year for an exclusive service for the loco's owning group members. It doesn't mean those are the only days that the loco operates.
