They are not for raising/lowering the buckeye, they replace the BR chain. It's a long story, but the NNR took them all off long before I started there.

Long story or not; if the NNR came to a conclusion that these were better than the standard chain, it is worth telling others.

I have been at the railway today. The two austerities were in use, both going well and HE3809 is very impressive, very quick off the mark, the regulator was closed well before the summit. Restoring the set of suburban coaches has been a good project well executed, they were forming HE3809s train.

Way before my time there so I guess in the 1990ish, a set split coming into Weybourne.
It was fully investigated at the time with the HMRI involved. The buckeye couplings were tested and were within tolerance so the thought was that somehow the chain on one of the couplings got caught on something and released the coupling when passing over the cross overs at the end of the platform.

To ensure this didn't happen again the chains were removed and the release bars used instead.

Have they got it hidden away at the back of the sheds?

Would be nice to see actual loco allocations for the Gala. Pleased to see 6880 on the move.

Just being finalised - scheduled locomotives for the full nine day festival should be posted by Monday - possibly before!

Good news thanks. A few workings still seem to have mystery locos though - e.g. 1434 ex Holt - but it looks like the weekend should have 6880, 4237, 53809, 18 and 22.
