    I think the long and short is Kolhapur has been sold albeit her buyer and new location remain unknown at the moment.

    Apologies for the thread bump, but the latest Trackside issue has confirmed that Kolhapur has been sold to West Coast. Includes an interview with David Smith explaining the plans for it.

    Would be interesting to hear what the plans are for it, as it stands unless they bung air brakes on her they have no main line purpose for her?

    Though the same applies to most of the WCRC fleet. I think David Smith is a collector as much as anything and 5593 (and 4767 and 5110) were opportunities to add to the collection that were too good to miss. Painful as it will be for him he is at some point going to have to swallow some pride and get a rake of Mk1's back on the mainline - recent purchase history suggests he isnt short of cash to do that.

    David Smith says something about Kolhapur being ready by the time Galatea is ready to be withdrawn. But don't think there was anything about fitting air braking.

    Given that Chris Beet has reportedly expressed some uncertainty about keeping Leander operational in future is this maybe a bit of Jubilee succession planning?

    According to the latest mags, Leander is returning to Carnforth and an overhaul is due to commence.

    IIRC I think its any overhaul after this one where doubts may have been raised by Mr Beet?

    I suppose there could be economies of scale if 45690 & 45593 were being overhauled simultaneously at Carnforth? The fact that overhauls seem to be continuing there does suggest that it is thought that a market will remain for both locomotives going forward?
