I think this is 35018's first time out since 21st October, when it stalled on Dalton Bank.

44932 and 45699 have been on test to Hellifield and back.

    Yes and yes.

What route do the Southern Region discs indicate?

    Waterloo - Bournemouth via Sway
or London Bridge - Portsmouth Hbr via Mitcham Jn,
London Bridge / Bricklayers Arms to Dover via Chislehurst Loop and Maidstone East
Oxted to Lewes / Eastbourne / Seaford via Haywards Heath changing code at Lewes for an appropiate code down the branch.
But ( and there is always a but ) those are the codes for the 1950's and they had no doubt changed over the years.

Look out for the return ECS as the coaches are not CDL enabled.
That means it can't work the RTC tour starting from Swanage in a couple of weeks time.

    Cheers, Neil

Which has been removed from the RTC programme anyway.

Nice shot but I see it still 'enjoys' the wrong size cab numerals.

Certainly does and entirely my fault, as I ordered them.

Anyway, Al, there's your big Bulleid en route to the Southern, with no assistance (and no passengers either).

No probs. It will go as well with any size number on the side. :)

And a nice gesture to send it south for the Swanage event. I feel sure that they will be grateful. Thank you.

A bit further south on its journey, approaching Sears Crossing south of Leighton Buzzard (where a certain mail train was brought to a halt back in 1963) on a less than pleasant June evening.

I can't compete with Oswald's interesting narratives, so I'll just say here's my video of BIL today, taken between Crewe and Stafford; just about captured despite the best efforts of a northbound Freightliner service.

Also featured, if anyone is interested, are a couple of shots featuring Avanti West Coast's new class 805 trains.

I don’t think they changed from those brought in by the Southern in 1944.

John, I'm not aware that any of those I got to know changed. And it is so nice to see them in use again from time to time decades after their original use ended.

I popped over to the footbridge just north of Headstone Lane to see her and take a quick snap. I then came home, had dinner, and buried my nose in a book, such that I have only now looked at my picture. Is it my imagination or a quirk of the photography, or are loco and coach grubbier than in the pictures and videos from earlier? P2020013.jpg

Ooh, it does look nice and 'normal' for a working MN from steam days, hope it stays like that.

No. 35018 runs round at Southampton. Tender first from Southampton to Swanage.
