At that speed, pushed up Yealand means that there is no hope for anywhere else on the route. Yes I know it was late but ........

So who then would pick up the tab for delaying other services?

Fair point. Well the TP was 30 late and even with Tangmere being pushed was still delayed by the charter. So you have to ask what was wrong with holding on to the charter and sending it out after the TP without looping it at Grayrigg.

Doesn’t NR know that keeping steam moving actually results in better use of track space than stop/starting, even with a permanent banker.

To be fair he did exactly he right thing getting Tangmere to Grayrigg yesterday. If he had held him at Carnforth then he’d have been waiting on another Avanti. Only 9/10 mins passed between Tangmere and the Avanti.

The average signalman looking at the computer screen would see Train no 1Zxx and probably not know it was steam, just the maximum speed. They would then have to make the decision about when it was safe to let it go without delaying other services. I may have related the story before but there was an occasion when Clan Line was waiting at Wandsworth Road to get into Stewart’s Lane after the turning move, before giving him the road the signalman contacted the driver to confirm that he’d walked through the unit and was ready to go!

On another note Salterwath on the East and West side are very shortly going to be no longer accessible due to a few clowns upsetting the local farmer by leaving gates open etc

That's a shame. I did notice on your video some cars on the west side of the line at Salterwath, I thought the farmer had stopped people parking there

If you go and ask that is all he is asking. Which after the recent event is understandable and when we have approached him he's been very kind allowing us into any of his fields.

Very nice. That's where I was planning to go yesterday, but with all the timing disruption and Carlisle traffic, I reckoned I might miss the Castle, so I opted for St Nicholas Bridge just in case.

And those same clowns probably won't be back until the next Hollywood show, so they've messed it up for the well-behaved regulars.

It's had some lineside clearance recently, which means you can fit the entire train in. It was a bit of a risk going here given the late running northbound, but we took a gamble things would be sorted for a right time departure.
