Yep. I loved seeing 257 on the line but as I’ve said elsewhere, I will be sorry to see the extended KESR/RVR switch to mainly GWR motive power once the larger tanks are in service. Needs must, and there aren’t really any other locos that are more appropriate, but I just feel like there are GWR tanks propping up services on half the heritage lines in the midlands and south of England, would be nice to keep this railway retain its more unique feel.
(Before anyone makes a comment about Austerities + Mk1s… I can only think of Embsay and recently the NVR with 3193 on loan that regularly operate longer/heavier services with Austerities as their main traction, and with 25 being KESR livery it’s something other railways don’t have).

Yes they are steel bodied as that's why so few survive today.
PS I am into classic Triumphs and the Amphicar used Herald parts..

Recent new post on the RVR blog click HERE - this documents visit by Local MP Huw Merriman, Lord Peter Hendy [the chairman of Network Rail] and others. It also mentions work to move the three way point in preperation for the Engine Shed.

    Things are moving on apace.

Boy does that turntable end look close to a running line. An extremely robust buffer stop an absolute must...

Not really, it's probably about 50' from the edge of the pit to the nearest running line, and is accessible only via reversal in a headshunt. It's previous location was more precarious, and in theory could be accessed straight off the mainline.

The turntable is to be hired out to other railways seeking to turn their rolling stock. Lines without such facilities, such as the Lavender Line or East Kent, will be able to bring their items of rolling stock by lorry to Robertsbridge. It will not take too long to unload, turn and reload before despatch back to the railway concerned.

Surely if you have to load your stock on a lorry in order to visit a turntable, it is simpler for the lorry to just go once round the block and come back facing the other direction …

That's what they do at the moment to turn stock.

My understanding is that the turntable is intended to be used to service engines used by main line excursions.

Do you mean 'Rother Valley Railway' or 'Rother District Council'?

The old location was the depot at Hither Green. It was removed from there, refurbished and installed at Robertsbridge.

When the turntable arrived I was disappointed that my suggestion of locating it on the A21, with modifications to make it into a combined level crossing and turntable, was not taken up :)
