Definetely, news today that Tornado's boiler is almost ready to be reunited with her frames, is great news.

From memory last time, the assembly process was as straightforward as possible, and she was steaming in very quick time.

Hmm! As someone once said "Almost ain't is". And even when the boiler is back on the frames, there tend to be one or two bits and pieces remaining to be connected.

BTW, why is this bit of the discussion on the P2 thread and not the Tornado thread?

Because until TORNADO clears the deck the P2 is pretty much on the Back- Burner...

Interesting. Good to see, and infinitely more uplifting than the trespasser at Collection X in the Narrow Gauge thread.

Not too sure about that. David Elliot and Terry Graham have been to Howco in Irvine to deliver more items needed in order to blank off all the holes in the monoblock in order for it to be pressure tested. This component and the boiler are being worked on and are heading towards completion. Only the monoblock needs parts supplied by Darlington and these are being provided.
The supply chain issues delaying completion of the boiler for 60163 are unfortunate, but if we think that people are simply sitting around waiting we are probably well wide of the mark particularly in light of the move to Bonomi Way.

I think the slowing of pace on the P2 is more due to the strength of the funding stream rather than being held back by work on Tornado.

Quite; these days neither I or my business have the money to give to the project any more (and it's had lots) and with retirement imminent, I will have to conduct a serious review of who gets what from my pension. There will be losers...

Resources are being focused on Tornado. It needs to be earning again ASAP.

I attended the P2 Supporters' day on 5 August and was very impressed with the whole thing. With a significant number of "senior" visitors, perhaps just one loo wasn't quite enough! However, apart from that (and the weather) it was a most enlightening and enjoyable visit. The P2 will definitely be quite a sight when completed. (I know, it's somewhat different from my usual GWR support!). The trustees were very helpful and made it quite clear that funding is the only thing the project needs (as do they all). Thank you to the A1 SLT for your skills, diligence and of course, patience with this magnificent project.

I used to get online updates with the Tornado Telegraph but that seems to have disappeared now. Does anyone still get it?

I do wish they'd not stuck that background music into that video: have they not heard of "less is more"?

On a separate note, I am greatly saddened to hear David Elliott's news: of the "top team", I always found him the easiest to talk to. I wish him well for his remaining time upon this Earth and just hope that he gets to see 2007 turn its wheels under its own power.

A lot of projects will miss his input.

David is the technical brains behind the whole project. He will be very difficult to replace and it saddens me that the P2 is so many years overdue now, through no fault of his, that it will be a miracle if he sees it run.

It ought to be renamed in his honour for a period.

Part of the new works, should either have a plaque, or be named after David that and Tornado and Prince of wales will be his legacy,
