    Bowled!

I had it all planned, be on the down platform at Alnmouth to get stills of D9000 as it arrived and then switch to video to get that Deltic roar as it departed after its scheduled brief stop. I fitted the Rode mic in readiness and set the sound levels this afternoon.

The video plan was the first to come off the rails, because of the coolant failure, hardly the effect I was hoping for as there was only one engine operating, so I decided I'd just go for the stills after all.

102 minutes late at Widdrington was cut to 72 just short of Alnmouth, by cutting out the planned loop at Chevington and by Alnmouth itself it was only 68 minutes late. And that was why the wheels came totally off my plan. If only it had stayed 72 minutes down. Due in for a 2 minute stop at 19.42, it actually arrived at 19.40. Unfortunately only half a minute or so earlier a 9 car Azuma from Edinburgh pulled up right next to me, with the trailing cab level with the northern ramp barrier and filling the whole platform. While I was asking the guard who had stepped down how long he would be there, I heard D9000 as it arrived on the other track, completely hidden as it stopped on the other platform. My hopes that the Azuma would depart before the Deltic were in vain.

All I ended up with were some departing shots as Royal Scots Grey pulled out of the station.

30 seconds later the damned Azuma departed.

Ta John. Two tone green, small yellow and the winged thistle is perfection to me.

Just noticed the position of the horns on top of the nose while I was looking at my photo again. As far as I can recall, only Ballymoss had the horns there in service, the rest of the production class had them tucked away near the buffers somewhere. I used to wonder at the time why they made Ballymoss different. Photo of Ballymoss from August 1964 at Newcastle & D9011 'The Royal Northumberland Fusiliers' in October 1966.

I'd prefer no yellow but we can't have everything.

The pacemaker is a bit like a Deltic, it's a 2 wire job but one wire has come adrift so it's only working on one wire. The medics say it's 'safe'
Deltic colour?? 2 tone green, small yellow panel for me, I can do without the winged thistle.
And I do like Mr Blink Bonny's ' departing shot. excellent.

Yellow Panel breaks it up though, I always thought 19 looked a bit drab when it was in all over green.
The lighter shade of green on Deltic 2 and 22 seems a little bit lighter than it should to me though.

As someone who has an affection for all the early diesels, I always liked their liveries at introduction - the Brush 2s especially.

One thing about the "Deltic Surprise" though - was the surprise "okay, how do we get back from Edinburgh?"

As long as he doesn't start flashing....he could be in big trouble if that happens...

I must admit the Deltic engine always reminds me of the Commer TS3 engine...

Don't make me laugh @osprey , I've had the most miserable cold (or similar) this last week and if I laugh, it sets off a coughing fit...

You’d get on well with my Dad, (I get Evil's from him when I comment about certain machines looking nice in things like Large Logo, Civil Engineers, Triple Grey etc)
For him it’s BR green/maroon or nothing! :):)
Regarding your next point I would have thought getting from Edinburgh to Crewe was pretty simple you just take a right at Carstairs? ;):)

Oh, but I also need the laughs... this has been miserable. I've not had a cold since 2019 and I've forgotten what a miserable experience they can be.

    As you should...

I liked maroon, but I like carmine and cream more. There are some pictures of early EE Type 4s working out of Liverpool Street with that colour coaching stock and it does look rather fab. For me though the ultimate diesel livery really was BTC black and silver :D

I was more thinking about the punters on board...

Dad likes his hydraulics a certain shade of red… I did like 24054 in black a few years ago albeit I preferred the Loadhaul version…

Well I don't want to be banged up for manslaughter...remember "it wasn't the coffin they carried him off in, it was the coughing that carried him off". I can't remember when I last had a cold, but eat your greens and fruit young man...look at that pillar of health..Victor...the Dewsbury Adonis....
