    I believe that as a condition of the sale of 6024 to the LSL group that it’s previous owners get to operate it for the next 10 years.

    There’s a part of me wondering though if those T&Cs might have a clause that the contract might be bought out?
    Didn’t the previous shareholders of 92212 get a nice little dividend from their investment a few years ago?

    As ever this is all Nat Pres Froth about its, buts and maybes, but why would I not be surprised to hear that an ‘Amicable arrangement’ occurs and 6024 joins the stud at CDD?

    I was merely drawing a conclusion based on what is already in the public domain. It may not be the correct conclusion, that is the point of a discussion forum. If any of it is inaccurate or you are aware of further information that is relevant, then feel free to share. Telling someone that what they are saying is rubbish but not saying why, isn't especially helpful to any of us.

    You do realise that this is NatPres, right? A significant chunk of stuff on here is conjecture! Now do you go round pointing out everything on this forum that is conjecture, or has this particular conjecture caused more offence than most for some reason?

    I was not saying what you are saying was rubbish, it may be very well true. But it's not certain as you made it out. I know no more than anyone else on this subject, but I do think taking it to Crewe to be assessed, what ever that means, raises lots of questions about the 6024 groups future.

    Surely your statement above regards the society is also conjecture?! Why do you think that ? It's an interesting viewpoint.

    As I said the areas I spoke about are all in the public domain. The society will have a contract with LSL (only the two parties know the contents) , the loco is currently too heavy for the WSR and LSL do use the SVR for testing. If I am putting 2+2 together and coming up with 5 then let me know, but please say why! I am always happy to be corrected by those who know more or are close to the coal face - but 90% of NP is speculation as none of us know everything!

    In all honesty it really would be interesting to know what odds a bookie would be giving right now regarding 6024 showing up at Kidderminster or Minehead first.
    But throwing a curveball into it LSL has a contract with the West Somerset regarding the use of facilities at the other end, so who knows? :)

    Not for the first time do I understand why Mr Shuttleworth and his friends operate the way they do :p

    it is not unreasonable to expect LSL to want to check both the locomotive and the audit trail if they are operating the engine . Ensuring compliance will be part of final certification . It may be worth remembering too that whilst 6024 has been under overhaul LSL has gone from a loco owning trust to a TOC and tour operator, so again the engine is potentially very much under LSL's safety case whereas at the beginning it could have under a number

    you also suspect LSL have invested significantly in the engine and again not unexpectedly would wish to make sure the work done is to their standards

    They would always need to partner with a TOC to operate on the mainline. The devil will be in the detail of the agreement signed with the Royal Scot Trust as to whether any other TOC can operate her. However, I can't recall another TOC using a Hosking owned locomotive since LSL got their TOC license.

    According to Wiki the Royal Scot locomotive and general trust are the outright owners of 6024, with the former preservation group essentially now only the caretakers of the locomotive. Ownership was transferred after the 6024 lost a court case against their former CME, costing them £500k and effectively leaving them penniless and unable to undertake the 10 yearly overhaul. How much control the society have on where and who operates the locomotive, should be in the agreement signed when ownership was transferred.

    Why should it. ? The A4 Locomotive Society is still viable yet it has had its locomotive overhauled at Crewe, tested on the SVR, operated on main line charters, and is still available for both main line charters and appearances at heritage lines - especially the NYMR. Whilst 6024 may be owned by LSL Group the agreement(s) between LSL and the 6024 Support Group will remain confidential but - presumably - will detail the arrangements of both parties in the operation and maintenance of the locomotive hence the future of the Support Group will be clear but known only to the group members as per contract.

    All fair enough but my original point was that it is easier to take an audit team to a loco than it is to take a loco to an audit team (I don’t go for the ‘specialist equipment’ or travel expenses ideas)

    It depends who is involved and what is involved. Having the loco at Crewe will mean LSL can do everything in house without having to move staff and equipment down to Minehead and back. They're also not relying on WSR for access to the loco and they've got their own yard for testing. I know you've discounted it, but maybe it was just easier to move the work to the staff rather than the other way round.

    You can’t exactly transport things like a wheel drop though can you?
    Martin I see your point but I can also see it from the other side of the coin too.
    I’m also guessing that there’s a few in Minehead having a few ideas about what they can do with the King Size space that’s now vacant (no pun intended)
