The two surviving H class too big, eh? ;)

Seriously tho', fantastic announcement from an organisation with a solid track record and just the right size for it's planned base. Amidst all the doom and gloom, great to see some commitment to the future.

Wonder if it will ever visit the Isle of Wight - sounds ideal for them! Seriously, though, wonderful news that there will soon be another NER loco around. Now we just need a benefactor who favours the NYMR to commission an A8 or B16!

NBRES would be happy to Co-ordinate the build. My phone is on all the time.

Sadly, I'm not currently in a position to be that benefactor - but rest assured, if ever I am, your phone will be ringing shortly after!

Interesting. Seems a bit bonkers to get Dunrobin and this coming into service at the same time, but it would be good to see something running at Rowley station again.

I think it's more gift horses and mouths. They thought about building one, then Dunrobin came up, and now (years since) someone has said what amounts to 'mind if I pay for you to have one?'

Cheers Ray. Given NBR's previous output, that was my guess. Incidentally, a recent clip of the GGR showed (marine firebox fitted NBR built loco) Otter in full sunlight, for the frst time that I've seen. Super little loco and that livery really is gorgeous.

On the Beamish Blog is a picture of what the boiler will look like along with the back head and tubeplates in our workshop.

This is very welcome and leads me to reassess my opinion that there will be no more ' new ' new builds . It still seems to me that nothing much larger than this is likely however. In fact does anyone consider anything first announced within the last five years is going to succeed?

V4 surely has a reasonable chance.

As someone with a lot of experience with NER class H loco No. 1310, if the cab is anything like the size of a class H, I don't envy anyone having to fire it. A shovel longer than 18" is too big and that includes he handle. If you have to go from one side of the cab to the other, it is easier to get off and walk round. The NER didn't like big enginemen. Ask anyone who has crewed the J27 or Q6. There are footplate crews who don't like these locos because they can't get in the cab unless the loco is on a curve.

They're building an entire loco from scratch. Surely you'd expect someone could manage a suitably customised shovel? :Rage:

What do the Ffesterbahn use on Double Fairlies?

:Rage: really? Of course the Middleton has a suitably customised shovel. They have managed to run 1310 sucessfully for more than 11 years in its current configuration.

So is this the same size as a Y7?
