To clarify, the special runs on a ticket with the section staff would following with the next service train. The station points are locked after the departure of the special and the station closed on the arrival of the service at Douglas

Not necessarily. There are instances of unlocked facing points on passenger lines. One is the Esk Valley line at Glaisdale where there is a passing loop. Trains run through a hydraulically sprung point in the facing direction at one end of the loop and trail through a similar one a at the other end. There is no FPL; the blades are simply detected electrically and linked to a points indicator. If the blades aren’t detected as being closed the indicator shows red; if they are a yellow indication is given.

In which case, may your optimism prove well placed!

Absolutely loving the photos, especially those of cruise ship specials. Many thanks. :)

Happy to be of service. I’m taking a group around the Douglas works on Monday so there’s anything worth taking a picture of I’ll try and feature it.

No11 Maitland drifts into Port Erin with the regular Thursday night Pie and Mash run on the diner. I had 30+ Belgian tourists to show round the museum and the train was well patronised

Amen to that! The Small Peacocks are my favourite variant of the Manx Peacocks and it's a matter of great regret that I didn't manage to see No. 8 during her last spell I traffic. I very much hope we'll get the chance again some day.

One of the Heritage Railway Volunteers team was at Alan Keef's open day yesterday and viewed the progress that has been made on the extensive rebuild of IMR No.10 G.H.Wood. Several photos have been posted on the HRV facebook page https://www.facebook.com/hrviom and are well worth a look.

Cheers Ray, did you notice on the info board it said it will take 18 months to complete, does that mean from this point so we shouldn’t expect to see her until 2024

I was told that a couple of weeks ago. On the positive side it will give us something 'new' for the 150th of the South Line in 2024. IoM railways are currently finalizing the programme for IMR 150 in July next year ...... watch this space!

thanks Ray, it’s good to know that work is progressing and she will be back, looks like I may need a visit in 2024 now, i remember seeing her when she came back in 1993 in dark green livery with red lining, is it too early to say what livery she will return in.

sounds exciting could another loco be possibly returning to traffic next year?

Hopefully No12 will be home in time for next year.
I had a group around Douglas Sheds today, in the workshop there is just covered van G1 nearing completion, in the rear of the works the Foxdale coach is being repainted (again renewing its Manx Northern livery) carriage F10 is next into the paint shop. Numbers 4,11,13 and MNR4 are all in service at present

My grandfather was one of the first to drive that loco, I’ve sentiment invested in its return :)
