Reports from onboard of 57.7 at Grayrigg Summit and 47.8 on Shap (MP 37 1/4). No horses spared, excellent stuff. :)

Is that pure steam or with rear end assistance?

A superb spectacle on Shap, a sparkling performance. Almost sounded as good as 46115

And I was at home poorly and on a couple of hours sleep when these filtered through. :( Can’t win them all.

And just in that Carnforth-Carlisle was completed well inside even time at 60mins.

Well BIL is a Class 8 and load 11 is a nice lump to pull around. But about an hour from Carnforth is decidedly quick especially when you look at the gradients. The time from Grayrigg to Shap would be worth comparing with Tornado, for example.

LMS locos are nice and noisy but.....when a MN or A1 turn on the taps you sometimes don't notice until you look at the GPS.

That run's up there with the Shap Trials to Grayrigg. Doubt they went as slow as 60 through Tebay on the approach to Shap though.

Well it's 11.25 miles from Grayrigg to Shap and even time is the target. Tornado's done it in 10.5 minutes but with 13 on so it looks as though the RTT time of ten minutes suggests that this was comparable...and of course is how the overall time was achieved.

    Well done West Coast.

New record with steam Carnforth to Carlisle today? Or was it DL assisted? Were you on it our reporter from Wales?

No diesel. Also no heroics over Ais Gill --looks like about 23 mins. But this morning, run of the year?
