I dunno, I think there were quite a few people enjoying the legitimate pairing of wartime black and LNER teaks at the SVR. There's a draw for authenticity, that is for sure.

Both things can be true, of course. A4 in steam? Check. Wartime black, little seen livery? Check. Result: big draw for railway!

Authenticity? What about the Kylchap chimney

Absolutely. One of my favourite postwar combinations is BR Express Passenger Blue with a sparkling set of carmine & creams ..... but I'm perfectly amenable to seeing an 8P loco in experimental purple.

    Okay John, reasonable authenticity then.

From my own point of view, I would turn out to see it in black. I wouldn't bother to do so in blue as I have seen it numerous times like that and sadly, only once pulling a full set of carmine and cream.

Plenty of Carmine/ Umber and Cream at the new Employers...
Found SNG'S Shade of blue to appear darker and somewhat less attractive rhan the A1 and King...

Given that 4 A4s were built with Kylchaps, and (to my understanding) all A4s carried wartime black at some point during the conflict, then Wartime Black on an A4 with a Kylchap is authentic, just not for this specific A4...

An A4 that is carrying any number of other A4's components, and whose original replacements of the said are long scrapped.

Surely the authenticity argument is purely subjective?

I was being pedantic but SNG would not have looked like that in wartime, it would only have looked like that in BR Green

I should probably have added an emoji to that remark I made, it was a bit tongue in cheek. :)

Does anybody know if the LNER had plans to retrofit all the non-Kylchap A4s with a Kylchap (as BR did in the 50s) that were then interrupted by the advent of WWII?

Another very comprehensive instalment, still much work going on.. Good Luck, and let's hope it's not too long before 60007 is back out there doing its stuff.

    Richard.
