Can't get enough of a unique Brush type 2! Early introduction of these machines was through Bury Knowsley Street on Bank Holiday Mondays. What had been previously Millhouses Jubilees (rare stuff in Lancashire) on Sheffield to Blackpool specials were replaced with Darnall Brush 2's, equally rare in the early 1960's. We hosted 31466 at Bury for a good while.
Good to see you are of the hairy face faith, don't relinquish whatever the pressures!!

I remember 466 when it was a Bescot machine, I was lucky enough to first enjoy it at the Dartmouth Steam Railways Diesel gala in 1998 when it was still in service, since then we’ve been reaquatinted a few times.
Regarding the facial fuzz, the missus loves it, but having a week at my parents I’m rather surprised my mum didn’t hand me a razor when I arrived last Friday!

Had mine for about 50 years, trouble shaving, infections etc., but my wife wouldn't have me without. Here we are just about to get rare haulage behind an SD 90 MAC in Colorado a few years ago. Was supposed to be steam, but it failed, they then suggested their 'F' unit but it failed and we got that machine instead. They couldn't believe how happy we were, haulage behind one of these machines almost unheard of. P1000611.JPG

Likewise, I've had mine for nearly 50 years. It is all different now in both quantity and colour but this is July 1981 when the Midland Compound had a day filming a TV commercial in York Station 81-7-1 18 (2) copy.jpg

My son "driving" Helga the Swedish railcar at NVR a couple of years ago. Got to get them interested in foreign rubbish from an early age!

A train is a train, a locomotive is a locomotive, if you are a true railway enthusiast, it's just a question of degree and personal preference sometime.

The ones up high wearing hard hats, and the ones down low in danger of being hit by falling coal, no head protection...!

The coal is low in the tender, they are only up there to drag it forward. Hard hats mandatory when taking coal.
