Um - if your briefing ends up with the recipient not understanding the situation then that's not a briefing, you're just dumping information and hoping. You don't leave a briefing until the recipient understands.

With regard to major stakeholders, any agency, LA, town or community councils, basically any statutory consultee, should probably be briefed in advance on plans if you're intending them to be supportive. The fact that L&LTC have objected is a massive own goal

Totally agree. Its really odd that L&LTC have objected. Surely they want to see a start made on the extension? The L and B would have been a lot further ahead had it not been for Covid delaying the preperation work and if they had been able to purchase the remaining parts of the trackbed.
The difficulties in extending in the Lynton direction are (1) They don't own all the trackbed and significally they don't own the part immediately next to Woody Bay in the Lynton direction (2) There are Bridges to re-instate (3) there is a lot of preperation to be done before an application is submitted not least of which is the design of a totally next station at Lynton.

Ideally yes, but sometimes it only becomes apparent later that the recipient's 'understanding' is not quite as correct as you might have hoped :-(

I am reminded of a contractor who was 'quite clear' about the fact that the product my organisation was going to be purchase was going to be used underwater. Sadly he had failed to appreciate - and claimed that the contract did not state the requirement clearly enough - that ergo it had to be waterproof :-(

FB site for the hanging brigade linking to the L&B FB page? Not exactly the sort of family friendly stuff one expects on a wholesome railway site, is it?

Anyone know which loco is planned to be in service over the next couple of weeks? Planning a potential visit.

Yes a couple of documents added which suggest that maybe the company is gearing up for activity. It is however still shown as dormant. I always wondered why it was set up as a PLC rather than a private company.

Meanwhile...I note that it is now over a month since the closing date for sealed bids for the two paintings that were being auctioned to raise money for the extension funds. Does anyone know how much was raised please?

    I noticed that too.
What's the betting the answer is "Not a lot"?
Because leaving it up this long after the closing date looks a bit desperate.

It would also seem that the section 73 application will now be decided in November rather than August

do you have the title of it?

i do hope that ENPA are made well aware of the governments stance on coal fired heritage , it is exempt from both the clean air act and the environment bill

Not exactly true - Section 43 of the Clean Air Act 1993 “The owner of any railway locomotive engine shall use any practicable means there may be for minimising the emission of smoke from the chimney on the engine and, if he fails to do so, he shall, if smoke is emitted from that chimney, be guilty of an offence.”
