    Evening All,

Shanklin Chine is a popular visitor attraction but, in 1944, it was one of the locations for P.L.U.T.O. - Pipe Lines Under The Ocean - which provided fuel for the Allies' vehicles as they advanced across France following the D-day invasion of Normandy.

I took some video while I was there last year, and it can be seen on YouTube if anyone would like to have a look. I've broken it down into three bite-sized chunks for easier viewing:

    Hope it's of interest.

    TTFN,

    Ron.

If you pop down the coast to the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary in Sundown, they have an original PLUTO pump on display.

Is that the same as Sandown Zoo? I did want to go there, but we ran out of days.

Yes - it used to be called the IoW Zoo, but had a name change. Better reflects what it does.

Perhaps I'll get there on our next visit to The Island.

Takes me back to 1994 and our family holiday on Vectis! As a 10 year old just getting into WW2 history it was fascinating, very lucky my parents were able to indulge me a little that summer.
That holiday also gives me a nice little reminder of what seemed like hundreds of these
