Eh? They look better than the numbers on LSL locos to me, but I guess neither is like those on 35028 which I suppose is your yardstick.:)

Yawn - quite so, as Alan and John B always remind us, ad nauseam!

I've already owned up to specifying the smaller numerals to the paint-shop, when 18 was painted, after failing to realise/check up that Bulleid Pacifics used the larger ones (as with ER Pacifics but unlike LM or BR Standards). Anyway, they're not going to be changed until a repaint is needed.

A few years back travelling behind BIL I noted that she lost some speed around Scout Green. Having arrived at Carlisle I asked Steve Chipperfield if she had slipped. He said, no but that he had eased her as she had earlier slipped at the site of a another flange greaser. This appears to be a wise precautionary move.

There is a greaser in the Scout Green area.

Can't you just be satisfied that the likes of David Smith have spent thousands bringing these old locomotives back to life so that we are still able to enjoy and photograph and all your worried about are bloody cab side numbers and size-unbelievable!!

It's more important than diesels on the back, you know.

I had indignant complaints about the font of the numerals on the maroon 'Jubilee', oh, and the lining was too cream rather than straw/old gold - even though the livery was a lash-up and patently false!

Magnetic numbers are your friend James, imagine the fun you can have with them, altering them at every stop, to keep people on their toes!!!

I'm sure that when you take a photograph, the detail matters, especially if you then choose to share it with the world, as you do.

So given that this font size detail is there for all to see I don't believe it to be an unreasonable comment. And I wasn't actually expecting anything to be done about it either. although it bears repeating. As for "all your (sic) worried about", I'd be more worried on your behalf about your English. ;)

Yes Alan, but why criticise the numerals on just 35018 when those on 34046 are equally "wrong". One has the right font but wrong size, the other the wrong font but the right size.... or hadn't you noticed? Criticise by all means but please do it fairly.

There are numerous other offences to take into consideration m'lud.:D

the cab side 6 on 46100
cab side numeral spacing on 45231
lining on the rear of the tenders on 44871 and 45407.

I suppose it's a change from ongoing the FS livery debate. (I shall now go and do penance for mentioning it)

Given that we still have steam on the main line (now) 54 years on from 11/8/68 the odd error is bound to creep in from a photographers point of view I'd argue it's the image that counts in the end.

Instead of arguing about fonts, sizes, and the like, maybe be thankful that steam is operating on the mainline at all.
Nitpicking is a national pastime, but when the operation ceases, it will be last of peoples worries.
Be thankful for what you have......

But can I not be both "thankful that steam is operating on the main line" and comment on "fonts, sizes, and the like"? I don't see that one excludes the other. Personally I never cease to be amazes and thankful for what we have.

Braunton...wrong font, right size eh? Well all I'll say is that LSL has got it a darn sight closer that West Coast! :) (Thanks to @neildimmer for use of his library)
