Your genuine concern is noted, but there really is no need. I promise you, regardless of your intentions, all you're doing is frustrating your fellow enthusiasts on here, and I can assure you it has no impact on the smooth running or otherwise of the event. That's down to a lot of other things.
Anyway, maybe once we announce what we're planning, you might have second thoughts about your attendance :)

Well thank you, I am glad we are on the same page.
This is why I do tend to rattle on about galas ALOT, just a thing I have always had, anxiety, ALOT of anxiety.

However, I always apologise for frustrating them and after the event has happened I do nothing BUT praise the railway, in fact, I make my suggestions for these events because I want these railways to succeed, I love it when I hear great things about these events and how much fellow enthusiasts have filmed these.

I mean no offence to what I say, I just have trouble expressing my views in a liberal fashion, but then again, I've been bought up like it.

The issue with me going to this event in June isn't the steam railway.
Hell! You could book a Bullied Pacific, Black 5 and an LNER Pacific and I would STILL turn up (not being a great fan of either), it's the mainline travel.

I came back recently from South Devon, I went there for their "Mince Pies, Manor & More" event, OMG! What a palava! Changing at Basingstoke because all the Pompey - Cardiff trains were cancelled, arriving late at the event itself BECAUSE it was New Years Day and buses were'nt running or places to eat weren't open, then on the way back having to change at Basingstoke because the Cardiff service was going to be on hour late, what should have been a 9:45pm arrival turned into an 11:00pm arrival.

I get it, it was my stupid fault thinking the buses were going to run New Years Day and train services were going to run as normal, but it did knock me for 6, so I don't know if I should go because of all that palava, I promised my parents "No more weekend stay aways" because they get me stressed too, so, TBH I don't really know.

If I could fly to GWSR for their Cotswolds Festival Of Steam (Which last time I heard it was a Somerset & Dorset theme, which is my 2nd favourite theme [1st being Great Western of course]), I would happily go, like I said, the heritage event looks great, the travel, I don't really know.

    Dear WRH
You seem like a nice chap but you obviously have problems. Perhaps you might consider talking to your GP about your anxiety issues or request counselling?
Too much detail of your personal issues for us all here on our little blog site.

Thank you Biermeister, I apologise for that.
Will refrain next time round. :)

We need a moratorium on S&D events. Its been done and overdone like chewy pork chops. Time for a fresh idea.

I don't know what to say about that one.
I like the Somerset & Dorset, then again, the amount of times I have suggested a Southern or Southern-esque theme has been ridiculous.
I really feel sorry 35006, all those events with the potential of said themes [2017 in particular] yet never did and never gets the limelight it deserves. :(

Oh, I dunno. It'd be a great event to launch that 2P 4-4-0 new build folks keep on about. :)

That is a pretty fair comment, I've lost track of the number of lengthy theme suggestions with pictures of each engine we have received from your good self. As much as I admire your enthusiasm a bit of realism is required as to what is and isn't possible. For example, your suggestion of Clun Castle previously is totally unrealistic as are suggestions of four big visiting tender engines which would cost in the region of £40,000 in transport costs alone, we do what we can within the budget constraints we have and would like to think the GWSR have a good track record with these events.

Please have a little confidence in the organising team and allow them to organise an event and announce things when appropriate without another 100 plus messages with theme suggestions, seeking information or posting here to say you now won't be attending because you haven't had a reply if you wouldn't mind, we are all busy people. I'm sure if and when all gets revealed it will be met with your approval!

I like your thinking, but if you also add frame extensions, bunker, tanks and a pony truck etc, you could have a 2P small Atlantic tank engine new build, hitting umpteen birds with one stone …

    That is a fare comment.
I do go a bit OTT with these events.
I honestly don't have any concept of budgeting or money, I just think more about the enthusiasts that's all.
I do have confidence in you guys with these events, I am just a bit anxious, that's all.

I mean this in the nicest possible way, but if you can do something about a situation in which you have control over and things aren’t quite going your way then by all means worry about it.
If on the other hand it’s a situation you have no control over then why worry? :)

Us enthusiasts are just fine thanks , in fact your worrying about us stresses us out a lot more and ruins our enjoyment of both our hobby and the events . So it would really help if you could stop worrying about us please

I mean, it sounds great, but where would you base it? What number is it?

I almost want some insight into the mad suggestions but it all falls into ThEy ShOuLd ReStOrE It AnD rUn It On ThE mAiN liNe territory regardless. Events are run for the maximum amount of appeal and potential ticket sales, not one persons personal trainset.

Events, are run based on what have we got, can we resource it , what will a visitor(s) cost , will bringing them in make more money than it costs

Gone are the heady days of mega gala's , cold hard economics to the fore
