44871 has certainly been a reliable mainstay of steam operations in England and Scotland this year. A great representative for its class and for Riley's.

Have you ever heard the saying "The impossible we can do right now miracles just take a bit longer?" To be able to complete a full overhaul of a Black Five in just a few months is an incredible feat. 35009, however, needs umpteen new parts (including a completely new tender) and of course its restoration has to be fitted in around contract work and keeping the current operational fleet going . I absolutely agree with you (and note the smiley!) and would put 35009 alongside 32424 and T3 563 as the most eagerly-awaited returns to steam of the decade, but even given the remarkable productivity of Riley's, I think we'll have to be patient for a while longer.
