I did wonder when I saw that last night Peter, so I checked when I got home and many previous ones have been 'right' so to speak although on Tuesday the lamps were in Express passenger position.
If I'm right that code would indicate a partially fitted goods -- if only !

They came out today in the afternoon Crewe - Chester - Crewe path. 37688 accompanied them and hauled them to Chester before the 20s headed the whole ensemble back to Crewe.

Unless the Duchess is out of guage somewhere on the Chiltern Line seems a long way around via Oxford to then have to go and turn on the Greenford triangle. Especially as there are few Chiltern London bound services around that time.

Yes I am an active volunteer
Could be to do with route knowledge as steam doesn't go via the Cotswolds line very often these days.

Yes think you are correct in that.46229 Dutchess of Hamilton was a regular over the Marleybone to Banbury line in the 1980s with the Shakespeare express to Stratford.
It reminds me when a very good friend of mine ,a driver at Aylesbury, was ask to conduct a engine movent from Banbury to West Ruilslip via Bicester, with 80080 .The movement starting from Butterley.
It arrived at Banbury with a Driver ,two fireman(over 60 miles was the max for one fireman then ,don't know about now ) and inspector who were booked thro to West Ruislip. My mate joining them would make ,five on the footplate .Whilst taking water the inspector ask if any one would like to go straight home from Banbury ,the driver and one fireman ,Saltley men I think, jump'ed at the offer. The inspector drove from Banbury, wih my mate piloting and the remaining fireman to Ruislip. The inspector was said to be a bit of a goer ,setting lineside fires at several locations.
A couple of photo's attached,46229 Duches of Hamilton leaving Bicester for Marleybone,30/06/1985. 80080 Banbury 14/07/1990.

No; more likely to be hauled than dragged!

Railway Herald reporting it as 34046, no idea on formation.

The question I answered was a possible diesel drag (or hauled if you prefer)given the path was 75mph either way 46115 wasn’t on the front sadly.

Indeed - I just don't understand why people use 'drag' rather than 'hauled','pulled', etc. It suggests the wheels are locked or similar. A minor thing.

RH shows it as a private charter with 34046 taking the Surrey hills route. I posted this on the SD 'Santa' thread because others had mentioned the meeting of two steam workings at Victoria in that thread, but it was removed without explanation. Not convinced that this thread is appropriate for the charter working either...

It does now, it didn't when I asked the question.
