The Government confirmed last year that charter trains are classed as public transport, so face mask rules apply. It was widely reported in all the magazines at the time. Here's a link from RAIL magazine - https://www.railmagazine.com/news/n...-confirm-face-coverings-required-for-charters

So every charter operator will need to comply. I'm on a Pathfinder trip this Saturday and am fully expecting them to send me an email before then telling me I'll need to wear a face mask whilst on board. My next LSL trip is Dec 18th so we'll see what they say by then but they don't really have a choice about it!

Just in case anyone was planning to see the Duchess tomorrow morning, due to gauging issues through Thetford. It'll be Diesel hauled from Norwich to Ely where the Duchess is then added.

Railway Herald also state that steam comes off at Humberstone Road.

Looks like it comes off at Ely this evening, then is reattached in the morning.

No idea, albeit was there a chance one would have reached Cardiff when all the kings were temporarily withdrawn and replaced with Duchesses and Lizzies in 1956?

This is a brilliant website but difficult to navigate.

My impression is that in 56 the Cardiff work was covered by the Brits and Castles. so the King crisis may not have had much effect on S Wales. In the attached it says the Duchesses worked to Plymouth, Bristol and Wolverhampton. In the book Through the Links at Tyseley by Jacks, there are derogatory remarks about the state of the Princesses sent to work on the Birmingham run.

GW men were always derogatory about anything that wasn’t GW.

I think if you are a shed master in Region A and asked to send locos to help out a crisis in Region B, you aren't going to pick your best locos ...

Whittlesey this morning. The stiff NW breeze ruled out quite a few Fenland locations but luckily the line at this point heads more or lest north west so the exhaust just about behaved itself.

I thought that might be the only place in the Fens that would work ok. You probably had just enough shelter with the trees and new housing estate.

To be honest the breeze was quite noticeable at Ramsey Road crossing and I think it was more the direction of the line there than any shelter. Either way, I got away with it.

Nice to see and hear the Duchess with that lovely seasonal exhaust beat, deep and crisp and even. :)
