SWR route map also shows Watercress and IOW lines, so nothing special about Swanage Railway

Previously the SWR just showed Corfe (for the limited Saturday service) now shows an interchange for Swanage and the Swanage railway.

With an eye on the Okehampton line reopening and seeing what happened there, I’m assuming there will be at least some ECS training runs up to Wareham before the service starts. Does anyone know if these will eat into the 90 days of the trial, or indeed how extensive the training runs might be?

I was under the impression that there have been many training runs up to the Network Rail boundary so far but none over the boundary because, presumably, SR is not yet licenced for mainline operations. The 90 day trial is passenger carrying days. Any training is additional to the 90 days.

The TOC application was withdrawn when COVID stopped operations in 2020.
Presumably a reapplication in 2022 if a trial starts April or May.
But also depends on an updated business case where SR got extra funding. But it is not yet public.
The SR thread had some discussion on problems such as marketing, insurance, back up bus service and ticketing where liasion with SWR will be important.
There was also talk if the DMU will just be a Wareham - Corfe shuttle, those going onto Swanage can change and get a steam train. There was also a comment that in the 2017 trial the first and last trains were the busiest, there is a good case to make these a 31806/33/mk1 steam/diesel mainline service, so those arriving at Wareham from a SWR train can change direct to the steam service ,which will give good promotion, but means extra work on the MK1 coaches.

There has been no SR updates for months, but on the SR Facebook page Oct 31st there was actually a kind of good news update on Wareham!

The 117 and 121 Bachmann model 00 DMUs are now available, very detailed and look good. There is an update in the spring Swanage magazine.
But have traditional green fronts with white "speed whiskers" whereas the actual units on the SR now have yellow fronts, presumably for operational safety reasons?.

I think Swanage have to convince ORR that they are rectifying their problem with recent SPAD incidents before any trips to Wareham.

Interesting to see that despite earlier comments the SWR service west of Poole is still hourly in the new timetable from next month (except Saturday).
I remain to be convinced next summers timetable will be any better, disregarding any Covid impacts of course.

Is that info about ORR and SPADs in the public domain somewhere? Where can we find it?

Interesting comment. Have you been involved with any such conversations or meetings with ORR?

Or Indeed, have you been involved with any such conversations with the Swanage Railway management?

Has anyone ever made a full length model railway of an steam railway. You could run the new dmus on a model swanage railway and they could have uses for it for training for drivers to realise what there driving looks like from outside and where the signals are are just 2 things of many

So who are you then 80104? Sound like someone who has an axe to grind against Swanage Railway and clearly has access to the staff website which as a member of the public you shouldn't have? Unless you are a Swanage Railway member of staff who is now breaking the rules of not only the website, but the rule book.

Did a google search and found on page 8
    https://www.srstaff.co.uk/swanningaround/swanningjun2218.pdf
"Talking of industry standards, on the 5TH June we had a visit from the Office of Rail and Road. We had two members of Her Majesty’s Railway Inspectorate visit and they spoke at great length over a number of topics. They were quite impressed with our Safety Management System. One of the key elements is that we do what the paperwork says. As they advised us a number of railways have good standards on the ground and a number have good paperwork but more often than not what happens on the ground doesn’t always tally with the paperwork and that’s when the ORR get concerned. They also wanted to speak to us about corrosion and how we monitor it to ensure it doesn’t present a hazard. The ORR also spoke to us about SPADs. A SPAD is a signal passed at danger without authority. They occur when any part of the locomotive or train passes the face of the signal by any distance. The ORR are concerned not least because a SPAD event can lead to other problems but also because we have reported any SPAD event that has taken place on Swanage Railway. The reason for their concern in our instance is the result of an improving reporting culture. We actually have a really good working relationship with the ORR and this is really helpful. We also have an improving safety culture and this is good, but there’s still some way to go to minimise the risk."

A culture of communication, reporting, keeping up paperwork and passing on lessons learnt is important.
The 2017 Wareham service seemed to go well and there seems to be no reason, if training goes well and risk scenarios are covered, a Wareham service in 2022 will be possible.
