The chances are that it will be quiet on the WCML today with much of what is going into Scotland cancelled atm.

Lovely image. As for the passing times since Carnforth, we'll probably need to get real about what is happening here unless, that is, the smoke trail isn't hiding a helper!

And no doubt supplying the much needed heating, and the passengers have really had their winter wonderland early.

Fun and games with the weather in Cumbria today with strong winds, freezing conditions and trees down all over the place I managed to get to Docker Viaduct
for No. 60103 'Flying Scotsman' s re-arranged trip from Man Vic to Carlisle via the WCML instead of the S+C, seen working over the viaduct with Mick Kelly driving
Phil Akester on the shovel and Roly Parker Guard

Although there is diesel assistance am I right in thinking this is the 1st time Scotsman has worked a train with 13 on it since it went to Cornwall in 2018? Also is this the first time that Scotsman has worked a train with 13 on it since it’s restoration without being part of a double header?

Personally, I don't know. However Scotsman with thirteen in leaf fall especially on the original planned route is an overloaded train in my view. Therefore it needed a diesel to share the power. Therefore the diesel should have been marshalled behind (or in front of) the steam loco, in my view.

I really do worry about this kind of practice.

Here you go again, having a dig at West Coast. It’s getting tiresome.

Quite. The fact that the steam trips turned out at all today is short of a miracle. Living in the upper Pennines, at 05.30 this morning when I turned, out the snow was falling horizontally at about 40mph...it was hard to stand up. Well done to all operators crew and staff. As for the passengers count yourself lucky and I hope you all enjoyed your "unique" mystery tours in this adverse weather.

Hear hear. RTT at Carlisle tells the story. Two trains in the hour before the departure, one arrival from Newcastle and one departure to Dumfries. Everything else cancelled.
