Yes. It's a similar rule to the one where if you have a gala with an unrebuilt Bulleid Pacific and a BR Standard tender loco, the event must become a Somerset & Dorset weekend.

Besides having a good ride out on saturday behind 2mt 41312 and Lanky C,27 52322 I did a bit of historical research on the mills of ramsbottom I found out the mill in question been demolished North of rammy L.C. east of the tracks with the high orange brick chimney was Britannia mills on the end of Kenyon street in its early days was a cotton mill and later became Kay's soap works and used the old Lanky mill boilers to store the caustic soda in now all flattened to probably build houses on. Another significant landmark and part of Burys rich textile industry gone into the history books for good.

An ELR unofficial faceache group reporting that 7820 is staying for 23/24 October services. Can't see anything official as yet.

I think it's in the same clause that stipulates 34092 must wear Golden Arrow regalia at some point during an enthusiasts event...

    That's the plan.....

Also tongue in cheek: I don't know, railways try and put on interesting events for enthusiasts and then enthusiasts grumble about things done that are aimed towards enthusiasts, can't please all of the people all of the time and all that :)

There will be no CCE headboard with 7820 next weekend atleast!

I quite like a headboard meself, even if it's not really appropriate to the track the train is actually travelling over. M'colleague @Paul Grant made the comment that Bolton Street does a good job of creating the effect of a much bigger, busier station than it is, and I think the acoutrements of express trains really contribute to that.

It wasn't a grumble from me at all Mike, just a flippant comment. I don' have a problem with headboards at all, it was merely an observation.

Well, I loved the headboards, especially the CCE one. The Manor working like that with the CCE headboard gave me goosebumps, as did the pairing with 5643.

If there's a Pines Express headboard knocking around, that would look great on CoW with maroon coaches, as would the correct lamp code (and I mean lamp) for an S&D through train. That's one of the only times you'd have seen a Bullied on maroon stock.

What about the through trains from the LMR to other south coast destinations? e.g., via Reading & Basingstoke or the WLL. Sometimes the LMR engine worked right through but not always. Furthermore, some maroon stock turned up on internal SR services. One of my many railway books features a Bulleid about to leave Swanage for Waterloo with a maroon Mk 1 immediately behind the loco.

Like the plot of a Hollywood movie, the star failed to go on, the understudy(s) stepped up, and a brilliant show resulted. Best ELR gala in ages, sounded fantastic.

Thanks everyone for all the amazing photos! I've just finished putting my video together from a fantastic weekend on the ELR!! It was my first time on the East Lancs, and it's safe to say I'll be back. It was a shame 60009 wasn't running, but as others have said, the railway still put on such a fantastic show. I was especially pleased to get to see and ride behind 47289 on Friday. I haven't seen a Jinty running for a long time, at least in their original colours anyway. I'm also glad I can now say I got to see 'Union of South Africa' moving, even if not under it's own steam!

Dinmore Manor was great as well and 5643 was driven very enthusiastically at times - what a great sound! Talking of the CCE headboard, it looked pretty wonky on the double header on Friday (I'm not complaining - it's probably pretty prototypical!). I also loved seeing 'City of Wells' in the evening dining trains. As others have said, Bury gives such a wonderful 'big station' atmosphere, which not many preserved stations do.

Thanks for everyone who made it happen and especially the driver of 80097 for the storming run on the parcels on Saturday morning at Burrs - one of my favourite shows of the gala.

Such a great line - thank you.
And thanks for all your great photos and videos so far - looking forward to seeing more of them, and comments most welcome on the video too.
