    Afternoon All,

I have now added the second part of my 1995 Isle of Wight video to my YouTube channel. Here's the link if you'd like to have a look:

    Hope it's of interest,

    Ron.

Unless relisted today this was removed from eBay yesterday unsold.
Someone more in the know than me reckoned on another forum the eBay photo for the auction was taken in Booths scrapyard. So must have be in poor condition if already there.

Looks like the scrapyard trying their luck and seeing if they can make more than scrap value. It says they have 3 cars available for sale.

Still visible on E bay if you click ‘view original listing’

The vehicle listed on eBay is vehicle 225, part of unit 483002 which was withdrawn in 2008. It is one of three class 483 vehicles currently at C. F. Booth in Rotherham. I am currently trying to work out full details of what is going on. The seller on eBay is "AlltheMoquette", which I gather is also a project and business known in some circles for its Moquette-based products. I have had some discussions with the proprietor, but do not know the nature of whatever agreement he has reached with C. F. Booth regarding the sale of the vehicles. I am assured that it is not a hoax. Whilst I believe the seller is based in London, I'm sure many of you will know that C. F. Booth are based in Rotherham.

The other vehicles currently at C. F. Booth are 122 and 129. I believe that 229 is still at Reid Freight's yard in Stoke-on-Trent. The London Transport Traction Group are to be buying two bogies from C. F. Booth, ex-unit 009 so I'm guessing that they will come from 129.

My primary motivation for posting here is to clarify that this listing has nothing to do with the London Transport Traction Group and Project 483. Our units, 483006 (Vehicles 126 and 226) and 483008 (Vehicles 128 and 228) are currently still at Ryde Depot and will soon be transferred to the London Transport Traction Group for preservation.

In a personal capacity I advised "Allthemoquette" of the vehicle number, the unit it came from and the manufacturer of the vehicle, and have offered access to drawings if any vehicle is to be cosmetically restored. I am told that the vehicle will be relisted later this week.

One would think that perhaps more luck could be achieved in listings with the more recently withdrawn (and presumably in better condition) 483004, but I'm not aware of any happenings with that unit.

Unit 483004 is accounted for and will be seeing further use on the Island as a Cafe. All units were offered free of charge by South Western Railway, provided that any successful bidder could, essentially, prove that they would look after the unit and ensure it didn't fall into disrepair.

As 483002 was considered too deteriorated it was not offered for preservation.

I see, that clears things up, hadn't heard anything recent regarding it, thanks. Would make all units accounted for.

Were the two withdrawn units sold by tender, or sold at scrap price? Is it the breakers selling it, or someone who has purchased the cars from the scrap dealer, and are now trying to cash in ?

I don't have any solid info but I would suggest the latter. My group have dealt with Booths before and they are most reasonable... Indeed I would go as far as to say they are the most preservation friendly of all the major rail scrapyards.

Selling on a rotten stripped out basket case at ten times the scrap value doesn't seem to be their style. This resale smacks of "dealer" to me.

The tradition of ex IOW coach bodies being sold on for static use on the island continues!

Is that the Cafe known as the ‘Bus Stop Cafe’. Maybe it will have to change it’s name.

The supper club at Walthamstow pumphouse museum in an ex Victoria tube train seemed to do well https://supperclub.tube/
Hopefully 483004 will also do well as a cafe.
Looking forward to sometime ride in the battery powered 483 units at Ongar.

I think you have answered your own question . units no longer going to epping and now to South Wales

some observers have questioned how long it takes until the metal fairies play a visit but I am sure the LTTG have all that in mind in their decision making

The Llanelli & Mynydd Mawr Railway is a bit of a long way from London, so not very accessible for those of us that live in London and the South East. Epping Ongar would have been much more convenient.

Yes, if would be more convenient for those in London and the South East.

But it was not within our control whether the units went to the EOR or not, and nowhere in that area was available to us. The EOR is supportive of our project, but are unable to accommodate us whilst we restore the units. Someday we all hope to see our units run to Ongar, it's just that day is more distant than originally hoped.

The L&MMR is our home for the immediate future, and that location allows the units to reach a new audiences. Likewise we hope to help the L&MMR reach new audiences too as the site at Cynheidre develops.

Good luck with the restoration project; I don't get to South Wales that often, but next time I do the L&MMR will be added to the 'to do' list.
