The video is rather tongue-in-cheek and amusing. The music actually adds to the effect.
Totally different to using music on a conventional video of steam in action which, to me, is a cardinal sin!

If I did that I would keep worrying what commentary I might be missing.

Or you could just cope with some harmless music? It's not like they've put the sound of nails on a blackboard over the video.

I watched it and thought it quite cute. Of course it’s not aimed at the kind of enthusiast obsessing about edhp of a Jubilee over Shap, but none the worse for that if it gets shared around on people’s social media feeds. The music made it for me, giving it a bit of a retro feel. If you had no music, or only the natural sounds, it would be less quirky and memorable

Just a suggestion many Youtube videos have auto subtitles. Just click on the little box on the bottom right hand corner to the left of the clog. I normally watch with the sound off but if I read something interesting I will rewind and watch it with the sound. They can sometimes be a bit rough but again, if it doesn't make sense I'll go back and listen to it.

Jeez, you must be real fun at parties. Why the closed mind?

No a closed mind: anyone who likes the music is welcome to enjoy it but (depending on its nature) I find it anywhere from mildly distracting to so annoying that I can't bear to watch. Maybe the closed minds belong to those who use their precious time adding music to videos just because almost everyone else does.

I refer the honourable gentleman to post #170. Perhaps you could watch the video and then comment? Or visit the website for details of the appeal? To say you won't donate simply because a video contains music is small minded in the extreme IMO.

There's no commentary, the lady who did the video is an equine vlogger with a decent amount of social media following who uploads many videos of her horses having " adventures".
Most of her videos have background music but that doesn't seem to put her followers off.
Five minutes of research reveals that it was she who contacted the SDR to see if they would be happy for her to film this particular episode on the railway, the idea behind it was to help promote local attractions. The SDR on one of their training days agreed for it to take place.
Write up here in one of the equine publications.

To me it looks like it was a nice bit of free publicity for the SDR, not an appeal put out by the railway.

Not to forget with over 330k views on YouTube that's a lot of great publicity for the railway at very little cost

I have tried watching a bit of it with the sound off but it seems perverse not to let us hear the sound of the loco.
As has often been pointed out there are numerous worthy causes appealing for our money so we have to choose. I freely admit that superfluous music is a bugbear of mine. I happen to find it annoying at best and will tolerate it only if the video is sufficiently interesting. But I find the drumming actually distressing. That is enough reason for me not to choose this particular cause. Others can do as they please.

You can still hear the sound of the loco. They haven't muted the ambient audio. They've just complemented it with some music which the vast majority of people have no objection to

I thought it was a very good film with lots of laugh bits in it. There is even a bit wen the engine man is looking for his hat in the fire which was another funny point. I just hope the horse hasn’t done a big dooby in the carridges as they do this when walking and all over the place normally and people pay money to sit in them.

I’m not sure I’d pay money to sit in a dooby, but it takes all sorts I guess :)

Isn’t a dooby something you smoke? Maybe whilst listening to a Pink Floyd Album?
