Coming back to Clan Line's commitments over the coming month or so, members of the MNLPS will know that the Pathfinder trip on 15th September to Margate from Newport will have Clan Line coming on at Battersea for the Kent circuit. Members will also know that they have been offered a special price, discounted by a third from London.

This offer is only for society members and guests. It is only available by pre-booking with the MNLPS directly, not Pathfinder. It is only valid from Bromley South where the train will now pick up and set down for that purpose. Pay on the day is not available.

If you know someone who is a member then you may have already taken advantage of this offer. However, if you are interested, have no such contact and would like to join the trip as the guest of a member then I have agreed to act as a point of reference.

Please send me a 'Conversation' message if you are interested.

Does anyone know if Clan Line has ever visited Worcester before? I believe this may be a first

Wasn’t 35028 was based at Bulmer’s of Hereford in the 1970s? Hereford isn’t far from Worcester.

It was certainly based at Hereford in the 1980sa,with Lizzie and KGV. Can't recall it at Worcester, the Hereford -Worcester line has never been a regular for steam, but I'm sure it must have done with its long preservation history.

It isn’t far but it is very different! Colwall tunnel also narrow bore, not sure an MN would be gauged. Regardless, anyone know if 35028 has been to or through Worcester?

Here's my footage of Clan Line echoing through The Golden Valley demolishing Sapperton Bank with the return leg of the Cotswold Venturer. I hope you enjoy it.

Demolish is the word. Mid fifties before the really steep bit and 37 into the tunnel. 430 tons gross.
There may be better climbs with that load and a Class 8 but not many I suggest.

What a fantastic day out with R.T.C. and 35028 Clan line and some nice fast running up the north warwickshire lines and return via the midland line and sapperton bank (golden valley line) I joined the train at Didcot and alighted at Reading to get the last train up to Manchester piccadilly but unfortunately due to the electrification work between york and Manchester tonight I'm having to to cycle back to Huddersfield from Manchester piccadilly it's also knowledgable to know that 35028 Bulmers cider had 35028 a bit and also before that it was at Longmoor military railway, and now resides at Stewart's lane under a private group I believe. Anyhow here is my pic of Clan line at worcester S.H.
and yet again I hope all rail photters and enthusiasts had a good day either filming or travelling on the cotswold venturer today and Also a pic of the 15in gauge loco running at the Evesham valley railway today where I also visited during our 5 hour stop off at Worcester Shrub hill. 20210821_134433.jpg 20210821_121234.jpg

Does anyone know who was driving yesterday? I'm just curious as I remember that the last time Clan Line was used on a WCRC working (quite a few years ago now) it was on the understanding that a driver with substantial Bulleid experience (Pete Roberts I think) was in charge.

Bill Monteith. Not sure if Pete was involved but he sometimes does the first leg. It was good but that run with 44871 and if course 5043 were both better but then they had drivers on home territory

Thanks Don - thought that may be the case. Bill seems to get almost everywhere in the South these days.

I think Bill is the only Southall steam driver who has signed both routes to Worcester so an obvious choice

Not a gripe, just a general question. What would happen if Bill had to call in sick? <BJ>

Sorry for the delay coming back to you. A friend works at Worcester depot and has done for many years. He has sent me a photo of MN28 on what was left of Worcester shed 4th October 1987 . I believe it was in connection with a railway do at Long Marston with 35028 hauling the train from Waterloo to Honeybourne and light engine to Worcester for servicing. Six Bells has this down as a Brush 4 haulage and the date as 3rd Oct but another friend has a picture of Clan Line at Moreton-in-Marsh I think. I have notified Gary at Six Bells of this earlier this year. 35028 clan line , wos shed, 041087 S Widdowson .jpg
