Fab, thank you! I doubt she'll get a chance to stop in again on her way back (she's donned the protective kit and headed out for a lunch with distant friends for the first time in 18 months) but I'll tell her to keep her eyes open…

TBH I was more impressed by @goldfish expecting his mother to be able to tell the difference between a MN and BoB/WC.....

It’s rather easy if you count the washout plugs ;):)

I was going to suggest that she was possibly good at counting wash out plugs, but I wasn't sure if my recollection was correct and I didn't want to make (more of) a fool of myself.

Between childhood ACE trips and a long married life with my Dad, expectations are high… ;)

(frankly I suspect she shouted a question at one of the photographers on Basingstoke station to see what the fuss was all about and was told it was a Merchant Navy)

Thank you. I was unable to find timings all week but should have realised that the move shown on RTT was the Scotsman being dragged by a diesel to York.

Hi. My wife reported a steam locomotive passing under a bridge she was driving over today. It was either on its way to or coming from Three Bridges on the Brighton line. Any ideas which loco it could be?

That would be Mayflower on the Steam Dreams Excursion to Eastbourne. Lucky she saw it, it was over an hour late!

Yeah my bad. Footage clearly proved it was in steam as it needs to be for tomorrow.

Unless the rods are removed a loco has to be in steam to provide lubrication to the cylinders etc.

Home in time for the final ? 21D_0563 35018 Searchlight Lane 110721.jpg

There was an intriguing STP path from Southall to Carnforth today (and ones for tomorrow and Tuesday) and whatever it was seemed to be making rapid progress. I just managed to note the truncated Rugby stop on RTT which gave time to get to Searchlight Lane even if I did expect a diesel. Surprised nobody picked up on these.
158 minutes ahead of the posted schedule here. With an early start from Crewe they could well be home in time for kick-off.

With 35018 heading north, what might these be for ?
