Charlie was named "Prospection" while plinthed in SA. Don't forget there was also a Sir George at the LynBarn.

You know I did think if not a green livery of sorts, a darker blue I think would look great on it, allow it to stand out from all other loco, present and future on the L&B that will be predominantly green.

That looks similar to L&B Green, which I presume might be the point

If Mods are reading, could we maybe rename the thread to 'Bagnall 4-4-0 "Sir George Newnes"' or similar?

Or just plain 'Charlie', because that's what most of the people working on the loco call it.

But the people who aren't working on it don't know this! Anyhoo, Georgie would be better!

When this thread was created, nearly four years ago, Charles Wytock was for sale and perhaps likely to move away from Woody Bay.
A group of L&B members have now bought the loco. It is being refurbished and when it re-appears it will carry the name 'Sir George Newnes' - a name which was preferred by the majority of members of the group. The intention is that the loco will provide steam driven motive power for the L&B until such time it is no longer required. By then there will be several more new build replica L&B locomotives.
At that point the loco will perhaps be sold on and might move away from North Devon - it might revert to the name 'Charles Wytock'.
Would it perhaps be a good idea to close this thread and for future reports about 'Charlie', 'Georgie' or whatever one wishes to call it, to appear in the thread https://national-preservation.com/threads/lynton-and-barnstaple-operations-and-development.641556/

Doing that means that anyone visiting Nat Pres would find all L&B related posts in the one thread...

It is quite likely that at some time in the future the loco may move on and the name 'Charles Wytock' restored so combining any future news with the L&B operations and development thread makes good sense.

Doing that means anyone trying to find out about Sir George Newnes has to wade thru acres of other L&B posts or try and use the less than user friendly search option ... Thanks so much :(

I think having other threads relating, to more specific and popular aspects, of heritage railways is sensible. So locomotive threads, individual station threads, bridge building, etc. as well as the General thread, works well.

It could simply be re-titled WB 2891 and that would future proof it as any name changes or future locations would not compromise it.

The locomotive in question, like those of the 762 Club, is not owned by the L&BR. Therefore the engine's design, construction and rebuild, like those of the 762 Club, does not warrant inclusion in the railway's thread.

Members of the owning group had an election to select a new name for their engine. Sir George Newnes was the clear winner. I suggest that now would be the appropriate time to rename this thread, I suggest "Bagnall 4-4-0 Sir George Newnes (formerly Prospection/Charles Wytock)". Those words not only reflect the current situation, but will also find the locomotive in its former guises using the search engine.

At least let's get the title right! It's 'Prospecton'.

thread name changed . any further pfaffing over the title may see my moderators patience expire .

Best wishes to those now caring for the engine and look forward to seeing it in steam again soon
