That’s not a bad idea, a members meet. Nat Pres has certainly supported LR before with the SSS galas.

A nice social event for our members which contributes to the railways funds sounds a win win situation, and is possible.

I suppose it depends on interest really.

As long as the costs incurred do not exceed the income.

To be fair, I was thinking more that we all just agreed a particular day and paid our fares…

Does anyone how much the tickets are going to be? I've looked but couldn't find any information.

Am sure that Llangollen would welcome anyone who wants to get their hands dirty in helping them to open fully....

An update suggests reopening is still conditional and looks like it will be just convential tickets to start?

The ex railway PLC website looks like it may need some security attention and updating before the trust can sell online tickets again?.

I can’t say for sure, but I’d heard it’s around a fiver. Turn up and pay cash on the day. From what I gather the card readers and ticket printing machines were owned / rented by the PLC so there’s probably still a little work to do around that side of things!

There is a lot of work going on at Llangollen and Berwyn this week making the stations look presentable for passengers.

We've been under pressure for some time to start accepting card payments but, until now, have resisted due to the costs of using a traditional card reader (our tickets are only 1.50 a ride anyway). However from Sunday we have used a "Sum-Up" card reader which has proved very successful. It is 'early days' but customers seem more willing to by multiple trip tickets when using a card compared to using cash. The cost of the unit was 119 pounds complete with SIM card and IIRC the only charge is 1.6% of the transaction with no other upfront costs - all you need is a mains socket and a mobile phone or wi-fi signal. For a few pounds more you can get a model which prints a receipt - this receipt could be used as a ticket.
Just a suggestion as ours paid for itself on the first day of use.
    Ray.

I assume it is contactless capable too for cards and Apple Pay etc. ? Not used cash or card since COVID arrived.

You can get even cheaper card readers. For example, square do one which is £22.00 they charge 1.75% though and that is a basic reader which works on a smart phone.

Even the one you have bought isn’t a huge cost compared to traditional PDQ terminals.

It’s certainly much easier to take card payment these days than it used to be.

It’s been a long wait but trains restart today. Hourly DMU service to Berwyn between 11.00 and 16.00. There will also be a 19.00 and 20.00 service this evening to coincide with the opening of the Llangollen international music eisteddfod. The cafe at Berwyn will be open for refreshments.

Oh god, @Paulthehitch is going to be all over the 'linear scrapyard' element of those containers and you've only just started running again… ;)

(Congrats, really good to see trains running again after such a tough time)
