I think you were standing next to me. I went to Bursledon this evening and got my shot of the day. The Scot sounded superb lifting it’s heavy train (10 plus a dead 47) up from the river bridge and through the station 7 early. On both occasions today when you would have expected the DL to push it remained silent. Well done to Saphos LSL and the train crews. One to have been on I think.

A very wet start to the day for Royal Scot as it heads for Kingswear. For the more hardy photographers amongst us ....or foolish, the blood and custard mk.1s are at the front with green 47.805 at the rear.

The charter lost 21 mins between Blatchbridge Jn. and East Somerset Jn. for some reason. It eventually passed Bruton 23 mins late but gained 7 mins by Taunton. <BJ>

    Confirmed basic timings:
    Bangor 07.40 / 22.50
    Llandudno Jn. 07.55 / 22.30
    Colwyn Bay 08.05 / 22.20
    Rhyl 08.20 / 22.05
    Prestatyn 08.30 / 22.00
    Chester 09.00 / 21.30
    Crewe 09.25 / 20.50
    Bristol TM 13.05 - 16.00

As there are 2 Saphos steam locos at Bristol at the moment I would say that there is a fair chance that it will be 46100 and 45231.

Whatever else may be said about Saphos, good or bad, running a tour from Bangor to Bristol is enterprising.

Not really; IMHO there is a large leisure market for train travel that is not fully tapped among the elderly and an interesting destination will always prove attractive especially if there is sufficient time to look around (i.e. at least 3 hours). The "Staycation" service over the S&C is one of the examples of an untapped market and the basic query is the price - at the right price I suspect this service will do well both with customer satisfaction and financial return.

That is what I meant: Saphos being enterprising in exploiting a different market.

I'll start the ball rolling with the last English Riviera Express of 2021 featuring 46100 Royal Scot. I filmed her at Newton St Loe, Bunns Lane and Burlescombe. I hope you enjoy the video.
