Not big issues to sort out then? Good to hear Ropley MPD folk on top of the job as usual.

Kilmersdon has been stripped of boiler and saddle tank and is due for boiler repairs and tyre replacement. Expected back in service next Spring.

Does anybody know if 53808 will be working on Saturday? If so I will book tickets just to get a run with this superb loco which I photographed working on the S&D in 1962

I belive it will be, subject to completion and testing of the repairs. The Ropley MPD team are quite active on Facebook, so it might be worth looking on there for more up-to-date status.

I was about to say that 53808 passed by the bottom of my garden at about 15:00 pulling a set of coaches up from the headshunt so yes, I assume it will be running

Are tickets available on the day at Alton? Presuming travel is unlimited on any train?
    Thanks in advance

    Evening All,

I've finally got the last part of my video footage from the Mid-Hants gala edited and on YouTube; here's the link if anyone would like to have a look:

    Hope it's still of interest.

    Ron.

On the day tickets are available at Ropley. Currently we can only manage numbers through one outlet. So in short to start at Alton you need to buy in advance. Yes travel is unlimited.

My idea will be something they will do on an overhaul as they will need a new pipe from the water into the engine and a way of getting coal round but the driver might have to do this at a station. They did this to a king but it was a ugly tube behind the engine

My last few visits have seen work continue on the Meat Van, wire-brushing the metalwork (whatever was used at it's previous repaint is putting up a fight!) and then applying red oxide. A few corroded patches have been cleaned up and fiberglass filler applied. When the oxide ran out a few weeks back, a start was made on grey undercoat of some of the woodwork.

The latest In the loop YouTube video was released yesterday. This time it’s all about the carriage department.

Jaysus, it were hot atop the hill yesterday!!!! :Saywhat: But that didn't stop most of the usual suspects gathering. :)

Again our focus of attention was the gunpowder van........

Given the increasing heat through the day, progress was slow & steady - no point in pushing yourself too hard when you have the sun on you all day - suppose it makes a change from the winter months when you freeze your nuts off all day!!

Three areas were tackled, mainly painting & some more woodwork, namely.......

Production of doorframe #3 was undertaken, the roof was given a 2nd undercoat & once that had gone off, was bought up to 1st gloss.

The main task of the day was to rubdown to bodysides to get rid of as many runs from previous coats as we could - but before a free for all commenced, it was decided to check on the amount of available paint....... it was discovered that, although more paint had been delivered, the dark grey undercoat requested, hadn't!!! :Banghead: :Banghead: :Banghead:

So given the low levels of paint, it was decided to do it in sections just in case we ran out...... as it happened, we didn't & by the end of the day all bar the two south side doors were in a uniform coat of 50/50!!!! :)

When frame #3 was trial fitted, it was discovered that upon trying to close it the edge of the frame was preveting the door from closing shut........ then we remebered that when we took the door off, the frame had a rebate along the leading edge to allow it to close! So, that is a job for next time. ;)

In between all this we took regular breaks, which gave us a chance to watch the the passing trains, which given it was 'War on the Line' weekend were well patronised. :)

A few pics of the passing trains, it was good to see the 7F out to play again.

And for comparison & not my photo, a reminder of where we were roughly a year ago, with a seemingly endless amount of work to do!!
