I was wondering about that. RTT says it's booked at 95mph after Hellifield, but there is no path from there to Carnforth.
But there is a 60mph path for a loco+POB from Preston to Carnforth, so my money is on Preston.

Carnforth to Carlisle in 65 minutes. That sounds impressive. Oh, wait a minute.

Yes, on RailAdvent website it gives "loco 6201 Princess Elizabeth, Carnforth - Carlisle - Hellifield"

But on https://northernbelle.co.uk/trip/settle-carlisle-steam-special/796?passengers=&promo= at bottom of page :-

"The journey will be steam hauled from Carnforth - Carlisle - Settle - Preston" £390 Per Passenger........

Well the diesel on the back is only there as a genny isn't it? but I don't suppose the passengers are concerned if it assists, they have a big red steam engine on the front and that's what matters.

The fireman had his feet up on the climb through Langho ! One to forget, Support crew didn't even have their heads out. Could do with this engine on the Pendle or CME !

A busy week for Oswald with plenty of steam through Blackburn in the last few days. I decided on the overbridge at Ramsgreave & Wilpshire station. It was a couple of degrees warmer than Thursday, not as sunny and more humid - we would be lucky to see much/any exhaust. Lizzie had been 6E at Clitheroe. Earlier than expected the sound of the big Stanier could be heard as she left Wilpshire tunnel. Into view and some white exhaust hung briefly in the trees as she rounded the curve; this disappeared quickly. Now approaching the station the exhaust was almost clear. A crisp exhaust beat as she headed through the platforms (11E). She was a magnificent spectacle; every inch a princess. Under the road bridge and on towards the summit. The diesel passed beneath, an (un)healthy push as the exhaust rattled away.

I took a time between a couple of bits of infrastructure to get an indication of the speed at the summit. "Now what's the formula, there's a rhyme . . . . the sum of its weight and the square root of eight. No, that's the man from Bengal with the testicular abnormality (Indian Variant). Ah, that's it . . . about 26mph."

This may not have been a video recorder's dream (it appears it may have been one's worst nightmare) but in my books it was a sight well worth seeing. There may have been little or no visible exhaust (warm and humid), the diesel was pushing (why shouldn't it help an 87 year old lady up the hill?) but none-the-less a magnificent spectacle. When lineside we must remember, we don't own or operate the train, we haven't bought a ticket (and at £399 Oswald is not likely to do so) and we have to take what is on offer with good grace - on the day we are freeloaders.
