I can remember seeing her working on the extension she and another loco, were in Alton station p3, with the relaying train, Little did i know, that i too would one day be in that cab, hand on the controller, whilst the driver said, now give it a bit more , as we shunted the crane round Ropley station and yard, :)

I dont think kilmersdon will be on show as it needs a lot of work and unless they push it along to show it off. I have been watching to see if there is announcements but it is a long way to go to not see anything you want

It could be in the yard at Ropley , As that's where the most attractions are now, plus it will be seem by far more people, even if its not possible to steam it, before she gets stripped down for overhaul.

To give everyone a flavour of what is planned...proper announcements to follow as soon as we can. Please bear with us as we have an interim website for a few weeks.

We will be using all the home fleet except 53808 which will be viewable at Ropley all being well alongside Kilmersdon.

The timetable is very similar to Autumn 2020.

There will be a mixed train (passenger and goods) operating Alresford to Ropley, and this will be available to ride on as well as the "mainline trains".

41312 will be acting as yard pilot at Ropley.

Talks on the history of the line will be offered outdoors at Ropley and Medstead.

At Alresford we intend to display the wagons that by then will have arrived from Washford along with some insights into our joint plans for the future.

The loco changes will be at Alresford this time.

Ticket numbers will be limited to ensure social distancing can be maintained. We will be offering tickets "per person" with a family ticket.

Really helpful info. I guess that a key detail will be how the fixed seat plan works for rides behind the visiting loco (or locos, if another is coming).

This is a good idea and one I have given to lots of railways but up to now only Bristol has ever done it

As others have said, I suspect that the passenger accommodation will only be in the carriages.

The wagon group often organise brake van rides at galas to help fund their work but I suspect that during covid, with the need to socially distance, it will be unlikely, or restricted.

I'm not sure you can claim the idea of passengers travelling in wagons-it's been happening since the dawn of railways.
Regarding preserved railways, I would imagine that H&S would have to be quite strict, but more importantly, visitors to heritage railways would expect some shelter from the elements, and dare I say it a little comfort having paid quite a lot of money for a train ride.

The last time I travelled in a brake van on the national network was behind 68006 and 68012 from Friden to Middleton Top that was quite an experience. One of those 4472 trips noted for the disasters en route. We returned from Chesterfield late and it just got later. This included the loco leaving the train in a loop for an hour at Kempston Road Junction while it went off to find water. The lovely run back from Luton to St Pancras with a new crew - only 35 min - didn't compensate for our arrival two and a half hours late at shortly before 1 a.m.! I digress.

Travelling in an open wagon when it's about 5 degrees and snowing is one way of sorting the die-hards from the rest, though...

One of these days when we hardy souls of the Saturday Gang gather atop the hill, it will be a sunny & temperate day with a gentle breeze instead of dull, dank, wet & wth wind that has a bite on it!!! :Arghh: :Arghh:

Still, with six of us on site, socially distanced & in three little bubbles, plenty of fronts on the Gunpowder Van were attacked. :)

Two of us set to swapping the temporary bolts on the country end roof hoop for the permanent ones, followed by drilling out the London end roof hoop to take temporary bolts.

Another two were charged with trimming back escessive bolts & then applying red oxide, ready for painting, along with stripping No.3 door in readiness for painting along with cleaning up solid brass screws ready for reusing.

The final two were charged with producing the 1st of the four door frames needed.........

After lunch two of us headed down to Ropley to check on the state of a couple of vehicles in the up yard...... the middle two moved into the GPV to trim back any flashband griining from the roof hoops, tidy up the northside longitudinal beam & flatten back the exisiting paint on the roof, as well as sanding back the four planks on the boyside at either end - whilst the door frame makers continued with their challenge...........

Down at Ropley on the fact finding mission, one of the vehicles we knew needed a fair bit of work, but not how much! The other one is out of traffic with, appaerntly some minor niggles, apart from a lipped shoe, we're stumped......

We also bumped into the Class 50 lads who were busy fitting new flooring to the beast, and the Urie lads were also in attendance, working on 499....... we also managed to track down the newly overhauled Gronk 08 288 - it looks the Dogs danglies! ( I believe there is an update due soon for the goings on at the Manor.....)

Once we finally returned to the top of the hill, our 'jolly' took longer than expected, things had been happening, with much progress made! :) :) :) Though there is still a lot to do, including filling in some redundant bolt holes in the southside roof edge that need filling in to bring it in line with the northside, where we replaced all the steel along the edge, so now has no holes & both sides need to look uniform......

Final bolts fitted & trimmed on the country end roof hoop.

Well, I've bought my Gala ticket for the Friday but there was no option of what train I was travelling on (surely not one train in use?), which end I was starting from, nor timetable, just 09.00 - 18.00. Very curious!

It was been stated before that the timetable will be like the Autumn Gala where there were 3 trains in operation ( and you will be allocated one of these trains) each hauled by all locos in use in turn during the day.You will be able to join your allocated train at Alresford, Ropley or Alton, and leave and re-join it at any station, althought the best place to take a break is Ropley.

Interesting response from my request to be pre-booked on the first Alresford departure:

We are not allocating seats to specific trains for the Gala, you will need to plan your itinerary when the timetable information is added to the web-site.

The gala page on the website has been updated with quite a bit more information including the travel arrangements.
