    I think before this decision was made thoughts had already turned towards having the/a turntable at Toddington rather than Winchcombe as part of wider plans to redevelop that site since we took back control of the garden centre land. The same VA confirmed there is still an ambition for us to have a turntable. But as @Dunfanaghy Road suggests;

    So I don't think you could really say this is any particular kind of set-back in terms of the GWSR getting a turntable. Just as much effort and money is required regardless. This design of turntable also requires a whacking great big pit to be dug, whereas other new built designs might not. Looking on the bright side I'd say it raises the possibility of us eventually having a GWR style turntable considerably!

    I believe there is also at least some of the outer curved rail on another wagon too, for any interested parties.

    I may be wrong, but I don't think it was fit for anything except scrap.

    Oh dear!

    I see some incomprehensible markings but nothing that I can read as words. Am I safer not knowing what others have managed to read?

    In our occasional series of civil engineering reports, we've just posted an update on the GWSR Civil Engineering blog:

    https://bridgestobroadway.blogspot.com/2021/04/stanway-viaduct-update.html

    Yours truly had an interesting time finding all the specials required to repair the pillars, and make them look like they were before. It's quite possible that some of the plinth engineering blues are from the original Broadway station, as we found quite a few there, but built the current station out of new bricks!

    Something wrong with that link- it wants me to create my own blog, rather than taking me to the GWSR

    That's fine, thanks. It's good to hear of a use being found for things that have been saved and squirrelled away!

    We bought quite a few special blues from a sale that Tyseley had ('what do you want all that for?') and some of these went on the repair of the vandalised parapet at Bishop's Cleeve. Then our recovery from Swanbourne and Verney Junction is already proving useful, in that we used 250 edging blocks for the Usk platform, and it looks as if we'll be using some of the bricks from Verney Junction in the Usk building's foundations. Our builder Paul is rar9ing to go, now that we can work in groups of 6 again. Maybe start next week?

    And we started fabricating for the Broadway canopy again. That was the best bit! There's a real interuption risk if you don't work on something for so long. Stuff happens. But the three of us have started again :)

    Ah, memories :) 1950's summer holidays and Rail Rover tickets. I managed all those shown except the north Devon lines. A very different world then. Gone but not forgotten !
