"We painted 6023 in rose and we started suffering detonation in the cylinders."

"I'm not surprised" said the mechanic "it's clearly pink king"

In the wee early morning, August 1952 a group of artists decorated a loco on a suburban line in Gothenburg.
When the footplate crew arrived there was no time to do anything about it, and it went into service.
The press wrote about it and as a postcard, it was very popular for years to come.

This happens all the time now when you think of it. It is called graffiti and the people doing it should be in trouble as it’s the west thing seeing wagons go buy that are covered in awful designs and big letteres and sometimes quite frankly rude. Some of the drawings are not very lifelike but very offensive

I rather like it in blue, apparently it’s going to stay that way after it’s next overhaul.

    Absolutely,
but as I pointed out, this was in 1952. In Sweden no one had heard the word graffiti until the movie American Graffiti came two decades later.
What is art and what is sabotage is defined by the context. The manager of the private railway line was quoted: "You are not allowed to joke about anything, just because it seems funny".
Two years later he had got rid of the steam locos all together, replaced by modern DMUs.

Mr Leigh-Pemberton, the founder of the 9" gauge Torry Hill Railway, wanted to have a small version of this for his railway. He had already had an Ivatt Atlantic and GWR King built for the line by Joe Liversage. Unfortunately Mr Leigh Pemberton died before work started on the loco.
