    BaCk on the BLOG comments.
Has anyone any comments about the type of BLOG used by the GWSR?
    https://www.gwsr.com/news/news_and_blogs/blogs_and_photo_diaries.html

They manage to get a near daily update on their collection of BLOGs.

Does anyone know if 45596 has passed her fitness to run exam for tomorrow's move back to the KWVR? Hoping to see her tomorrow morning.

Looks to me to be an embedded blogspot, not hosted on the GWSR website at all, just linked from it.
Blogspot is run by Blogger which, I believe, is run by Google (who will dump cookies on your pc and spy on you in the same way that FB does).

Surely this really belongs on "General Chat" or something though, not on the Mid Hants Operations thread.
(Mods - please feel free to move this post if it's not appropriate here).

All correct. The advantage is you have a central place on the main website where its easy to see what updates there are in each department, but the webmaster doesn't have to lift a finger. Meanwhile the blog posts themselves are written up by a myriad of volunteers so even if one volunteer disappears for example, nothing grinds to a halt.

As for cookies, they're a fact of life on the Internet, you've just got to get on with it.

It looks like the positioning move from the MHR back to the KWVR is going ahead with 45596 as it has been activated on RTT:

    I totally agree.
I added that in specifically to point out that if people are avoiding Facebook because of the tracking cookies (spying on their private data o_O ) and preferring to blogs, then the GWSR blogspot blogs are liable to be doing exactly the same as it's run by another of the data and ad driven companies... Google.

What is it they say? If you're not paying for a product, you are the product.

Have to say it was a wonderful tonic this morning to witness some Main Line Steam action after Seven months. I would have taken a big sniff of the steam but I had a mask on
45596 was in a real hurry when I captured her between Farnham and Aldershot earlier today. Here are a couple of my shots and a short video from the positioning move captured at Green Lane:

Presumably the blogs are still checked over by the management - otherwise it would be too easy to say something on the blog that the management would rather was part of an official statement - or kept inside the railway completely.

5Z96: Currently R/T at Kew East.
A shot of it at Alton, 'leaving the property', as the Yanks would say.

Well they do look at them, usually to find out what's going on, but we're trusted to be sensible. It's in our interests to do so, we don't want to reflect badly on the railway. No one's looking over our shoulder and we don't have to await permission before publishing a post.

Very enjoyable they are to read too. (Never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd be that interested in culverts...)

I found the same following the drainage work on both the F&WHR and L&B sites. Must've been a delayed reaction to some unintended bogtrotting in the then-abandoned Goat cutting at Beddgelert, back in 1972. :)

I can confirm that they have all been in the post for about a week. I hope that everyone will shortly have their copy of Mid Hants News

Just had following drop into my 'in-box'...:

..."The Somerset and Dorset Railway Trust (S&DRT), Mid Hants Railway Preservation Society (MHRPS) and the Mid Hants Railway Ltd (MHR) are pleased to announce that they are in detailed discussions regarding the relocation of rolling stock and artefacts belonging to the S&DRT from Washford on the West Somerset Railway to the Watercress Line in Hampshire"...

A quick report from those working on 870073 yesterday:

The outstanding country end corrugated metalwork and vents were rubbed back and primed. On the north and south sides, the country end side of the doors has had a few patches of filler applied, and the wood sanded and ali primed (bar one plank that requires replacing.) The vents here have also been cleaned and primed. The steel struts are next to be tackled (after lockdown of course...)

Shall need to order up the paint for the top layers. I will probably return the van to it's original number 870067 (or have a different one each side?)

Great news for both the railway and S&DRT.
